hi my educated nairalanders, I live in portharcut near uniport it is raining heavily now, but before the rain; there was light so immediately it started raining boom without hesitation NEPA took the light, I know that the rain is never in good terms with electricity but can someone explain the main reason this usually happen, and does it happen in other first world countries ( UK USA China) or does it mean Nigeria lack the equipment to keep the light shining even when is raining? pls I am curious to know

According to Riichyy, our feeder cables in the Nigerian circuit systems are not strong enough to withstand heavy downpour coupled with storms, which may result in faults dat may cost millions of Naira to rectify. hence, its best to take out supply while its raining to prevent such faults. Kylekent59 asserted that the discos made use of obsolete materials/components. Diamond88 share similar complain about IKEDC.Pesuzok suggested that this menace might reduced if every home has a prepaid meter. He opined that this would make the discos to quickly restore electricity after thunderstorm and rain since no power no revenue.
