While getting admission to Top Universities in Canada continues to require excellent academic scores, the permission to study is validated using a student visa, and there are requirements

Canada continues to attract a steady volume of students around the world.

If you wish to take academic, professional, or vocational training at a university, college, or any other educational institution in Canada, you will need a student visa before you can gain entry.

What is a student visa?

Canada student visa is a document issued to international students that allows them to study at the designated learning institutions {DLI} in Canada.

Most international students need a student visa to study in Canada, make sure you check the requirements and have all the documents you need before you apply.

Any prospective student seeking higher education in another country must obtain a student visa from that country.

What are the requirements for a Canadian student visa?

You’ll need to get certain documents ready for your Canada student visa application. Your finance is an important factor to approve your student visa.

The Canadian government must be able to see that you can financially support yourself throughout your studies, whether with savings or through a sponsor such as a parent.

You should apply for a student visa after you get the college acceptance letter.

The following are the requirements for a Canada Student Visa.

Admission letter

An admission letter is a mandatory document required by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada {IRCC} in an application for a Canada student visa.

Valid passport

You would need a valid passport to apply for a student visa in Canada.

From the Canadian High Commission, you must have a passport whose validity covers the planned stay in Canada.

Proof of Acceptance by a Designated Learning Institution {DLI}

You will need the acceptance letter from the university/institute you plan to attend. A Designated Learning Institute is a University recognized by the Department of Immigration.

(Here is a list for your reference.) In case you are applying for Quebec, you will also need a CAQ of which you will be duly notified.

Proof of funds

One of the requirements to apply for Canadian student is to prove that you have sufficient financial means to support yourself as well as pay your tuition fees.

Canadian Immigration deems a student to require at least CAD 10,000 for every year of their stay. Apart from the above two, the student would also have to prove that he/she has enough funds for a return fare as well.

Passport Size Photographs

Four {4} recent passport size photographs taken on a white background, neutral facial expression, plain background as well as no headgear (unless for religious purposes).

For an online application, you must procure a digital copy of the photograph which should not be more than 4MB.

Immigration Medical Examination (IME)

Canadian immigration requires international students to undergo a mandatory immigration medical examination conducted by contract physicians.

Students would have to book an appointment and visit the listed doctors for a medical examination, preferably one week before starting their visa application.

This is to give the doctor enough time to validate and upload the necessary documents.

It is always recommended to book an appointment in advance with the nearest center/doctor based on the list of selected doctors.

The panel physician will conduct a complete medical examination and may refer you for chest x-rays and laboratory tests.

Once your exam is complete, the doctor will send the results to Citizen and Immigration Canada {CIC}.

English Language Proficiency Exam Score

Although it is not mandatory to have it at the time of application, it is strongly recommended that you show up and obtain your English language proficiency score before beginning the visa application process.

As it stands, you would have had to submit your English language proficiency score to confirm your admission to Canadian University.

TOEFL, IELTS, etc. They are all acceptable.

Statement of Purpose {SOP}

Statement of Purpose or SOP is an important document which is a 1000 – 1,500 words long essay, and it is one of the requirements that is needed to apply for a student visa in Canada.

It is an essay written by applicants highlighting their academic and professional excellence to get admission in the program of their choice.

When applying for a Canadian student visa, you will be required to submit an essay stating the purpose of your trip to Canada and why you have chosen the particular institution.

This will be requested as an optional document in the checklist, but we strongly recommend that you submit it.

Credit Card

In case you are applying online, you will also need a credit card to pay the application fee.

The Canadian visa application fee is CAD 160. Remember that the system only accepts credit cards and not debit cards.

Also, it doesn’t have to be your credit card. You can also use your parents’ cards, as long as you have explicit permission to do so.

In addition to the above, if you apply online, you will need access to a digital scanner.

However, if you apply offline, you must have authentic copies of all the documents mentioned above.

It is important to note that when applying online, you will be prompted to download some documents, fill them out, print them, sign them, and then upload them.

Accordingly, the availability of the scanner must be arranged. The system also allows you to upload a good-quality digital image.

However, we recommend a scanner for a camera.

During the personal interview, the interviewer can request additional documents. These can be documents to prove evidence of academic or financial status.

These may include:

Transcripts, diplomas, degrees, or certificates from the schools you attended

Test scores, such as TOEFL, SAT, GRE, or GMAT

Your intention to leave Canada at the end of the course of study

How you will pay for all educational, living, and travel costs.

According to recent visa regulations, if you have a family member working or applying for a work permit in Canada, the application for your student visa will be processed in two weeks.

You can renew or extend your study permit if:

you wish to continue your studies

your program has an extension

you change your university

The study permit expires 90 days after you finish your studies (after you receive a notification of the completion of the program).

You can still stay in Canada to travel and explore, or you can apply for a work permit, which allows you to take a full-time or part-time job, or even be self-employed.

How long does it take to receive the Canadian student Visa?

After applying for your Canadian study permit, the processing time can take up to 90 days but is generally faster. This also depends on the situation in your home country.

You can use Student Direct Stream to get a study permit faster.

Fees start at CAD 150 and the processing time is typically around 20 calendar days. Student Direct Stream is only available to students from the following countries:

Morocco
2. India

3. Pakistan

4. China

5. Vietnam

6. The Philippines

7. Senegal

Can a Canadian student visa be rejected?

As per Citizen and Immigration Canada {CIC}, each year an average of 30% of the total student visa applications for Canada are rejected.

Most of these rejections are based on some of the common reasons. The Canadian government has laid out stringency towards their student visa laws.

How do I know my Canadian student visa is approved?

If your application is approved, you will receive an approval letter saying that you can study in Canada. This letter is called a port of entry cover letter.

Once you have this letter, you must leave and apply for your study permit upon returning to Canada.

* Is the Approval Letter same as Decision Letter? The Decision Letter requests that you send your passport to the nearest VAC in this case VFS Global.
* Your study permit is issued upon arrival at the Port of Entry. Note: That you have a visa does not grant you automatic entry into Canada. You may be subjected to an interview by the Entry Officer who will or will not issue you a Study Permit. So you need to pray that village people don't escort you to the airport in Canada.

You just made me smile with your last line grin grin. If your village people accompany you to the airport, just go and buy 40ft container of olive oil and start praying.
