This evening I came across a post and a sequel to it from someone elseabout how Nigerian men need to start standing up for and supporting each other.
While I get and understood where they were coming from having read their stories I don't agree with that notion and I'll give my reasons for that later.
As a lady I agree wholeheartedly that the society treat men especially harsh and unfair when it comes to allegation about physical and sexual assaults/harrasment, even if they were actually the ones in the receiving end of it.

I feel women disgusted by women who accuse men falsely for physical or sexual assaults/harrasment and will never support them because not only will it be unfair to the man in question but she is also creating a more difficult situation for those women who are truly being assaulted or harassed physically and sexually.

Saying men should start supporting their fellow men is not the right thing to say though, the right thing should be to stand up for what's fair and right irrespective of your gender. Speak up for those that are truly innocent or give them the benefit of a doubt. The fact that you are innocent doesn't mean every single man facing the same allegations is. Infact one of the reasons behind the society's harsh treatment on men is because a larger percentage of men who faced those allegations were indeed guilty when compared to the percentage of those who were innocent. This doesn't justify the harsh treatment though.

A gender should never stand up for each other based on sentiments alone but should be sure they are in the right before making that stance. Blind support of some women for their fellow woman is the reason why lots of innocent men have been crucified by the society without hearing their own side of the story. Standing up for someone just because he or she is your sex is no right and will only make a bad society even worse, instead stand up for those who are right and innocent irrespective of gender, tribe, religion or account balance. Don't jump into conclusion based on one side of a story, make your findings then make your stance based on what is fair. That is the only way to build a fair society.
