I have been wondering how radio and television stations get their money and I believe most persons too fall into that category of not knowing. Every hour, their broadcast is on and we all tune in freely to listen to the broadcast. They even print fliers and create other forms of advertisement inviting people to tune in. My question is how do these radio and television stations (especially privately owned) get their money, is it only through advertisement they do for people?

just like facebook and most public media, they all make their money from advert placements and special coverages.
For media houses in Nigeria, election period is their money spinning peak period

The have marketers who go out to source for adverts and programmes sponsorship.

My station just included us in marketing (OAPs must bring at least 700k before second quarter)

Politicians and artistes who come to promote their campaign and songs pay money for interviews.Adverts of product,pastors who uses their medium to preach also pay money.

They place a price on adverts by the seconds.

I've seen where an OAP is reducing the length of a an advert voice over, no be small work o.
The radio station ensures strict compliance, if your ad will exceed the length of time you paid for you'd be told.

It's through various kinds of adverts for companies, organizations, churches and even individuals. Some programmes are specially sponsored too.
