Man Who Spent 20 Years In Jail Released After Twin Confessed To Crime In U.S by Explorers(m): 1:39pm On Jan 28, 2022
A man wrongly convicted of murder has been released from jail after 20 years, after his twin brother confessed to the crime.

Kevin Dugar, 44, was finally released from Cook County Jail, in Chicago, on Wednesday, nine years after his twin brother Karl Smith, also 44, confessed.

'I have to get it off my chest before it kills me,' Smith wrote.

'So I'll just come clean and pray you can forgive me.'

Despite the confession, a judge denied Dugar a retrial in 2018 as Smith admitted to the murder while serving a 99-year sentence for a 2008 home invasion that left a six-year-old child with a gunshot wound to the head.

The judge found Smith's confessional 'completely unreliable,' as the two reportedly used to pretend to be each other and said there was 'a pattern of misdirection and deceit.'

Dugar's lawyer Rob Safer (right) said they hope they don't retrial his clients case.

Dugar, 44, was released from Cook County Jail, in Chicago, on Wednesday.

There is a pattern here, thay have always been pretending to be the other and one had to go to jail for the crime of another, truth could be that they both know and carry out the crime, and the other also want to carry on make the other rest. And it could also be as the narrative goes, na only them sabi the actual truth...

Two decades wasted! Being accused wrongly is very hurting and shameful. Being locked up is one of the things I fear most in life.

Planned work? Do you think going to prison is something enjoyable especially when it's a murder case? You need to read more on the U.S. judicial system and how the inmates treat murderers.

The 2nd twin was convicted and sentenced to a 99 year jail term. It doesn't make sense for the two brothers to be in jail so he confessed to his brother's crime. He will now serve his own 99 plus his brother's own while his brother walks free
