We call ourselves Christians yet we are deeply rooted in the activities of traditional African religion.

Are we ignorant or confused or do we believe it is okay to have two set of belief system spanning across Christianity and tradition.

Christianity and African Traditional Religion are Different

Ideally we ought to know the difference between African Traditional Religion and Christianity, for our salvation is at stake. African Traditional Religion suppresses the truth of the knowledge of God and the deeds of God. Christianity expresses God’s truth and deeds.

African Traditional Religion is an expression of humanity’s inherited unrighteousness from the sin of Adam.

Christianity is an expression of the righteousness gained through faith in Christ.

African religions have a distorted and belittling view of God, yet Christianity has a full and comprehensive view of God.

Unlike Christianity, African Traditional Religion lacks the promise in the Saviour and Comforter.

Christianity rightly glorifies God, but African religion reveres creatures, be it animal or human ancestral spirits. Praise God for his grace in revealing himself through the Scriptures that we may know and worship him in truth!

In one respect, religious and moral truth does come from divine revelation—the Bible is full of moral and religious truth. However, human tradition is fallible. Divine revelation is the ultimate authority, not the human tradition that has developed around it.

We call ourselves Christians yet we still perform rituals and norms as instructed by our Indigenous native tradition.

Can we still be Christian if we still involve in these traditions

If that tradition includes bowing down to stones and carved images and calling them Alpha and Omega, judge you today, if you were God, would you consider he that doeth such a true worshiper? That's what I thought....therein lies your answer.

When the true God introduced himself to the man called Abraham, God clearly stated that all the nations has been alienated from Him so Abraham and his offspring will serve as the race that will bring other races back to the through God! Genesis 12:1-3

So all the nations on this planet were worshipers of fallen angels (demons) that's why a believer need to make his personal research to know traditions or customs that those demons are using to lure people away from the true God! Luke 13:24

It is Premium Confusion to be one leg here and one leg there. Those who do such are Confusing and Deceiving themselves.
They have no part with KING of kings and The LORD of lords .

Joshua 24:15
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Are we ignorant or confused.

You people live on the intersection of ignorance and confusion. Slavish people.

And what the hell is African Traditional Religion? “ATR” as if the whole continent has one single faith. Given that the seeds of your Christianity were sown in Alexandria, Egypt before being formalized by the Roman authorities, does Christianity count as African Traditional Religion?

Do your research, you won't hear.

Where do you think the concept of Christianity came from?

A life without Christ is a shattered and confused life. You can't serve two masters.
the elders in their tradition will say, 'tradition is the master (isese lagba)
it is the 'Word of GOD that is the master. You can't honour GOD if you priortize tradition above GOD. The people who place tradition on their heads are always confused and they all wallows in one challanges or the other.

What about food? Are we sure the traditional ways of cooking aren’t filled with demons?

Are we forcing evil into those boiled yams when we pound them in the mortar?

Frankly, egusi has always looked evil to me.

It is impossible to belong to Jesus Christ - love Him that is - yet hold on to the doctrines and traditions of men(and their churches and cultures) - Mark 7 vs 1 - 13 & Matthew 15 vs 1 - 14 undecided
