our human nature is inherently wicked, there are no need for high sounding intellectual analysis, in your heart lies strife, selfishness, greed, pride and the desire to be worshipped (when you gift someone a material thing and the person refuses to deliver their gratitude), most of you here harbor demons more virulent than these, there is an insanity in the mind of a man, and only the government of Christ, under the leading in of the holy spirit can administer the puritan pills that make s you free of the world. 1 Like |

Of course Nollywood is not the only reason but it is one of the major reasons but I think the Nigerian music industry is a worse culprit here 4 Likes 1 Share |

Verily, the Nigerian situation is intricately overwhelming. Values have been eroded and everything else that can be termed good is becoming elusive. 1 Like |

Na people wey no get sense dey relate am to Nollywood. Same people that would fail to condemn Yahoo Yahoo in totality. When clients no longer pay, they venture into rituals - just because they don't want to taste poverty again. The evil money they use to impress others & manipulate others (even kids) into becoming rich by all means. The same money the never-do-well spend partying & clubbing - on useless things such as alcohol & girls. |

CandyOps: Great comment. Many people in our society know that Abrahamic religions are also a massive problem in our society but they find it more convenient to castigate traditional religion and defend Abrahamic religions. Spiritualism, which Christianity, Islam and Traditional religion fall into, is negatively impacting the pace of growth and development. Dont criticise one and defend the other. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Nollywood is a cheap scapegoat for these idiots. Na people wey lack common sense and reason go point out nollywood as the main influence for rituals. All the ritualisrs in movies usually face very gruesome ends. I have not seen one that actually glorifies it, the moral lesson is there for all to see at the end of it. Nigerians and lack of common sense. Blaming nollywood is easier than accepting that the money over everything culture that has grown in Nigeria over the past five years is a major problem in the society. 3 Likes |

Ishilove:I concur too that art imitates life. But Hymar is wrong that ritual killing isn't getting worse in Nigeria. It is. In the past, rituals were uncommon and carried out by older men. Now, 17-year-old boys and girls are doing it. 2 Likes |

The major problem we have this day it is as a result of bad governance, I could remember while I was growing up as a kid we all believe in education we believed that it is either you go to school or you learn as an artisan but today education has no value and no kid is ready to learn. Internet fraudstar has taken that away and it all began from all this social media influencers. You see a child that ought to sit at home and study very hard now has a tablet to watch all sort of atrocities online, don't get me wrong it's good we socialize but also there should be a limit to it. We are in a country where we promote indecency in disguise of decency. Go to tiktok you would find alot of money ritual videos, illuminati, native doctors promoting there business etc. Every sector is to be blame one way or the other but all thesame the government takes the largest part of the blame. Yoruba people will say "owo to dile ni esu maa nbe nise" which means an idle hand is a workshop for the devil. 1 Like |

JuanDeDios:When the Otokoto saga was making waves in the 90s and Ezego 2000s, why didn't 17 year olds rush into it? Nollywood was already in full traction then so why didn't youngsters decide that money rituals was the way to go? The society is rotting and we now worship fast wealth more than previous generations, so the blame is not on Nollywood. 3 Likes |

CandyOps:LOL chief $490 million annually, that's like what Hollywood and bollywood use for 1 or 2 movie. Now about being the 3 biggest in the world is by volume of production and not the other way round. Now ask yourself, how many times do people watch Nollywood and start tapping on grace. How many times has people watched Nollywood and feel depressed, How many times do people watch Nollywood and feel they're not hustling enough, and started asking God when. But go to social media you see lots of this on celebrity pages and non celebrity pages that flaunt their wealth and luxurious life styles on the social media, Intimidating people. You see their followers wishing to be like them, to enjoy the good life they enjoy. Those are the key things that propelled and trigger people to look for money by fire by force, and life is not mathematics that only have one formula. So the quest for reaches will begin. 1 Like |

CandyOps: The same Nollywood also shows that people who commit such heinous acts almost always end up dead or mad, or some truly tragic thing occurs to them. Do those people not watch till the end of the movie? Did you intentionally ignore this part in the person comment or you just want to sound brilliant?? 2 Likes |

deepwater: False. Ritual killings , particularly for wealth is getting worse. Even pastors have gotten in on the fad to increase church membership. Ritual murders then was for traditional/ cultural purposes for certain ceremonies. Nowadays ritual murders are done for money or to obtain political power. Those days it is rare to hear of missing/kidnapped children for money ritual purposes. Nowadays we hear children kidnapped for rituals on a regular basis. I agree with the OP that Nollywood (and Pentecostalism) plays a huge role in making people desperate to make quick money at all cost. 1 Like |

I hardly watch movies, has any Nollywood movie portrayed how a ritual killer lived happily ever after? Do they end well at the end of such movies? As far as I know, Nollywood movies tries to discourage people from going into ritual killings, maybe people choose not to watch till the end. Musical videos on the other hand pushes these youths to indulge in despicable things to make money. When youths vibe to music like; if you no get money hide your face or if you no get money wetin you gain etc, they're indirectly pressured into making this money by all means. Music industry has caused more damage to the youths mentality than Nollywood ever did or ever will. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

holuwajobar: As long as Nollywood shows and proved that money rituals/human sacrifice works and the wealth can be enjoyed for sometimes, many people are ready to take their chances with the negative side effects. Every is told that all money rituals has series negative consequences, that doesn't discourage people from still attempting it. 1 Like |

Nollywood, is useless, if it will allow ritual killings to be its main inspiration, then what value is it adding to society, anyway, its been a long time I watch Nollywood, so I dont vibe in that frequency of been hopeless or trapped by the cage of ritual killings, i can think in other realms. I heard Nollywood has improved, not sure, don't have the interest to check it, but i love aki and pawpaw, maybe i am outdated and ignorant on the current state of nollywood . 1 Like |
