Update from SIGGY .ng

The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, February 3, 2022, arrested son of a former Deputy Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, named Olaoye Jamiu Olarewaju over offenses bordering on cybercrime, Siggy reports.

The antigraft agency said Olaoye was arrested alongside one Badmus Ridwan Moyosore, a native of Ibadan, Oyo State and one Abdulsalam Ibrahim from Malete in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The trio of Olaoye, Badmus and Abdulsalam, who were prosecuted separately by the anti-graft agency pleaded guilty to their respective charges.

Following their pleas, counsel to the EFCC, Rasheedat Alao called witnesses who are operatives of the Commission to review the facts of the cases.

According to the witness who testified against Olaoye, the defendant fraudulently defrauded one of his victims to the tune of $2,000 (Two Thousand United States Dollars), while the testimony against Badmus revealed the defendant swindled his victim the sum of $200 (Two Hundred United States Dollars).

In the same vein, the testimony against Abdulsalam was to the effect that he was involved in “sugar baby relationship scam” and that over N18million suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities passed through his account.

The extra-judicial statements of the defendants, fraudulent documents printed from their devices and items recovered from them at the point of arrest were tendered and admitted in evidence.

Alao, thereafter urged the court to convict the defendants as charged.

In her judgment, Justice Akinpelu held the EFCC had established its cases against the defendants. The court pronounced the defendants guilty.

The judge sentenced Olaoye to a term of six months imprisonment with N150, 000.00 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) as an option of fine. The court also ordered that an iPhone which he used to perpetrate the crime and the draft of N400,000.00 (Four Hundred Thousand Naira), which he raised as restitution be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Similarly, Justice Akinpelu sentenced Badmus to six months imprisonment with N100, 000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) as the option of fine. Two phones and a laptop used by the convict to perpetrate the crime were also forfeited to the Federal Government.

Let me correct one mentality that has permeated all over social media. That it's poverty and lack that makes most people do yahoo.

That is a lie. I've seen children of successful and rich men and women dive into this nonsense because they wanted to be independent from their parents. it's a known fact that hard drugs and other vices including cultism is very rampart among the children of the rich.

Amen!

Why I always canvass that naming ceremony should only be celebrated after child is 27 years old.

Cos it’s amazing that all this fraudsters and prostitutes had their naming ceremony celebrated. If their parents knew back then that will become fraudsters and prostitutes, they would have just cancelled such celebration.

See how the poor boy tarnished the image his father as built over decades.

The Nigeria Judicial system should stop the six months vacation they were giving to these guys in the name of sentence and increase it haba!!!!.... how will others learn?...

It's not as if the sentence will deprive them of anything or dent their image in terms of gaining employment like any reasonable country that have database that will dictate false claim that he/she has not been convicted..

They will just go on six months leave and come back while some of their victims they took their hard earned money have committed suicide ...
