It's until I studied and adopted Yoruba Ifa spirituality that I have very clear understanding of this world that we call Ile-Aye. Without trying to discredit other religion or spirituality, I don't think there is any other spirituality that provide a very deep knowledge of how the different elements of this world are interwoven. We need to first have a right conceptualization of the Supreme Being, the creation of earth, humans and other physical elements. Unfortunately most Africans have adopted European concept of the Suoreme Being, which says that God is benevolent, and thats why we are confused about so many things. But that attribute doesn't fit Yoruba concept of the Supreme Being. Here is why. As IFA says that "Tibi Tire La Da Ile-Aye", meaning that "We have created this Earth with Positive and Negative Forces". The task of creating humans and other lives and things on earth was assigned to 3 deities. After creating human beings called Eniyan, they also assigned the task of their good well beings to 400 ÷ 1 deities (i.e. Orisas). They now realized that, it was impractical to live in a world where everyone live in a state of constant goodness. In such state, humans would have no concept of evil and won't be aware of what it mean to be good. For this reason, they created 200 negative forces to counterpoint the positive forces. Among these negative forces called Ajoguns are deities for death, diseases, etc. This is necessary because in a world where everything is good, responsibility, purnishment, reward, importance of good character will be irrelevant, And whatever humans does in such state of 100% goodness will not be by choice or by free-will. Imagine that you are employed in a company where every employee are on a salary of $1 million, with no reward system for performance or penalty for poor performance. Therefore living in world of duality of positive and negative forces will allow humans to be able to pursue "Iwapele", which is good character.
