Nigerian airlines have increased the cost of economy flight tickets for domestic routes from about N35,000 to a base fare of N50000, TheCable understands.

The airlines include Azman Air, Max Air, Ibom Air, Arik Air, Air Peace and Dana Air.

In a statement issued last week, the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) condemned attacks on airline staff and facilities at the various airports by passengers over flight delays or cancellations, saying they will no longer allow the attacks to go on unrestrained.

The association also lamented the high cost of jet A1 fuel, forex scarcity, inflation, increase in ground handling charges, cost of buying and importation of spare parts...

I was trying to pay for a Lagos - Abuja book-on-hold flight ticket on Thursday fare was 23k, I decided to check other airlines only to see 48k, 50k, 61k.

I concluded this must be some joke or network glitch on the websites.

Seeing this this morning only spells difficult times for Nigerians ahead. Flight these days is not just luxury but safety since the roads are very unsafe for travel.

35k to 50k .If not those bloodsucker BASTARDz on highway,they won't increase it.

If Nigeria Airways was operational, it would be a check on the private airlines.

It has been long I entered flight. The economic situation of Nigeria is hitting hard on them.

This is really crazy. That is about 43% increase if the base fee is 35,000. As at last month, was closer to 30,000. Which is actually 67% increase.

Taking flight has again become a luxury for the very rich. The middle class in Nigeria has endured skyrocketing prices all round, it seem there is a scheme, to push them into the lower class.

If Green Africa, a fairly new entrant in the industry is not doing the astronomical and outrageous increase, then the others are only not just harsh or unfair but greedy. Fuel, exchange rate, the priority for safety are their justifications, but the truth is , they are tired of the average Nigerians questioning their services or why their is a delay in flight. They are now saying they will no longer fly average Nigerians.

Only a while ago, the base wasn’t even 35,000 but 23,000. Now, it’s 50,000. Buses would also double their fare. Shouldn’t NLC help people across the country get an equivalent increase in their take-home? NLC don’t care!!

But if you are in Lagos you don't kick against the state government owned BRT buses; if you are in Delta State you don't kick against the state-owned buses. That is the form of regulation that works in Nigeria. I don't know what other kind of regulation you talk about. Do you think the transport fares in the listed states and others will be what they are now if the state governments do not play a part in the transport systems?

Flight is not a need but want, there are alternative.

People paid 100k for flight in Dec self

Price inflation is terrible in Nigeria
