It's necessary he does. I think he's simply just exploring and trying to distinguish them or just trying to simplify things for himself. Everyone has their own method for learning. I was learning about 5 programming languages at the same time. Some people don't like it. But our psyche work very differently. While learning these programming languages at the same time, I would apply creative strategies to help me understand them quickly just like he did with PHP and python.
