Hello Doctors on the forum,

I need some lights on this.

Today my genotyping result was out, and unfortunately it says I am SS.

Please I want to know what that means for the remainder of my life.

I have read several times on the internet on how ss people go through a lot of pain and complications in their lives. My late best friend had ss and whenever he got sick it was really hard on him it made me cry all the time.

But the thing is I was only hospitalize once in my life, I was around 7yrs old then & I am 24 now.

So, please the experts in the house what advice do you have for me.

What do I need to know. I am really kinda confused now.

I am B-(negative) if that will be of any help.

O.P over the centuries, fear has killed more persons than sickle cell anaemia. Why does your writeup exude fear and anxiety? Being an SS is not a death sentence. If you've been living relatively well for 24years, what makes you not think you won't live out many more decades in good health without crisis? why would you subscribe to fear because you just received report on your genotype?

u are not S.S. if u were, u for hear am since your teenage years

If you have not been falling Ill all these time,
You must have been doing something right unconsciously or the test result is just wrong altogether...

Do another test... if you are SS..

Don’t over think it shaaa so that the thought alone doesn’t make you sick....

You must be one lucky dude, not every sickle cell carrier enjoy healthy life like you do.

I have an SS friend, she's still alive till today, just that she never adds weight, she's slim asf, but not an unhealthy slimness oo, Model slimness, so keep your head up. Write death outta your mind asap!

The first I told myself after getting the result was "don't over think it".

I am also thinking of doing another test at a private center, this one was done at a teaching hospital.

I don't smoke, I don't drink.

Haven't you had reasons to do this test before now? Why not redo the test somewhere else? I mean, you're 24 already and you haven't been experiencing the known SS issues. I'd like to believe the result ain't correct but then again, medical sciences aren't all about 1 + 1; there are always exceptions. So the first thing I'd do in your position is to do a confirmatory test. Even if you're SS, I'd say you're a special type. What the sickle cell anemia could not do to you prior to now, I doubt it'd be able to do going forward. You'd only need to ask your doctor about things to look out for or avoid, and you can live your life like anyone else. Even the AS people have marriage constraints (which I'm sure you're already thinking about).

had no reason to do test earlier. even now my gf made me do it, she sent me her test results and suggested I go get it done. (fortunately she's an AA).

The reason I am a bit doubtful of this result is the fact that, as you said, I luckily managed to avoid all the common issues associated with SS without doing anything.

I will find a private center and redo the test.

To be honest, at first I was really terrified because I know how my friend suffered because of that thing. But then I told myself not to overthink it. I've been living fine, I may as well be fine till the end of my life.

I'm still feeling a lil bit uncomfortable and I'm going to redo the test somewhere else.

I felt really fearful.
I brought death very close.

But now I am calm. I told my sister & she laughed it off and told me to go to another place and have them do the test again. She said if I am really SS I shouldn't be this weight I am.

Next week they'll run the test again.

I am praying for the best.

Let us know the outcome of the test

Go to like two more labs.. Belike na another person result them give u.. And even if the result is same.. You are already a surviver .. You won't die my nigga.. Remove the thought of death from your mind..

Talk of government establishment and what readily comes to mind is redundancy and unproductiveness!.. one frustrated careless fella must have written this.
