I want to send him a birthday package and also to thank him for his massive support he has given me so far in my academic. I'm in my final year now and he has being there for me.. I want to appreciate him through the gift also.
I need information on shipping companies in Nigeria and how much it will cost me to send him the package to US. Any valuable information is acceptable... Thanks my good people of narialand.

If you're sending something light, your best bet is FedEx or DHL/UPS. If you can get reliable cargo shippers in your location as well, it wouldn't be bad, but it would take a much longer time to reach him...

I've only sent packages to the U.K., not the U.S. I sent via NACOH (MMIA) and DHL.

There are companies like UPS, DHL and FedEx. You can check their websites. Although, I'd urge you to visit their physical office also so as to get full information about it.

It depends on the weight of the package. I've sent packages of 40kg and more. A package of that weight was around #50k. These were via NAHCO.

I sent a package of 2kg via DHL for #14k.

If it's DHL, just get ready to be billed in the region of 100k.

DHL is yr best bet,
The kg will determine the amount to pay.

You will also need is correct address

Why not get a connect over there that can link u up with a delivery company that design cakes.

Check out Ship to Naija. I just shipped a package from the U.S. to my boyfriend in Abuja. They have offices in Abuja and Lagos, but I believe they will pick up directly from your personal location. This company was recommended by a Nigerian man I met who works at the U.S. post office, and he highly recommended it.

Bro... send it via NIPOST .... it will be delivered in NY by USPS. If you send it via DHL they will charge you an arm and a leg... and they will give it to USPS to deliver. If you send it via FedEx/UPS.... you will pay through your nose.... but they will deliver. Any other company... do so at your own risk.

NIPOST is by far the least expensive ... a government agency and USPS is the government agency in the US. The difference... USPS is reliable and your package will be delivered hassle free.
On posting... like someone suggested above .... do not frame the portrait. If it's on canvas/paper.... roll and post it in a tube. If you can buy a mailing tube... do so. If not ... go to any cloth store and ask for the tube the cloth was rolled on... most likely will be in their garbage. Cut to length and put the portrait in. Plug each end with an empty can or whatever.... make sure it fits verrrry tight. Get the full address from your uncle.... use a permanent ink marker or ball point pen to write it on the cardboard itself so it cannot smear or erase.... full address. At NIPOST .. ask to send it via EMS ... which is like express ... or priority which takes a bit longer but is quicker than standard. Ask for insurance... on customs form.... value USD 500/equivalent... minimum. Keep your receipt amd tracking number safe until deliverd. Should take less than two weeks regardless of how shipped.
If your uncle.is not at home at time of delivery... and his home is not one where parcels can be left ... he will have to go to the local Post Office .....which is always within walking distance...to pick it up.

On receiving it..... your uncle will have it framed to his liking. He may want a frame to match his wall ... his furniture ... his theme or whatever and can easily either buy a frame... or get one custom built.
