The party organizers did the right thing at the wrong place.
They were not supposed to share that fuel at the event center.

What law was broken?

backbencher:

Right, so they should share fuel in a place where there are all sorts of things that can ignite it?

You guys should spend time looking after someone who has burns due to ignited fuel. Very fun times.....

There is a reason why fuel stations have always had, even in the day when smoking in public was not verboten, NO SMOKING signs....

I ask again sir, what law was broken?

The police are not to work or subjected to persecute according to moral standards or what they think is right or wrong.

They are to work with one thing only: the law.

If any known law was broken, I support the persecution but if they are acting this way just because they believe it is wrong, then they are totally wrong.

kolagbemi:

Endangering the life of citizens is a crime.

Any action that endangered the life of a fellow citizens is a crime and police doesn't have to have arrested prior offenders before qualifying to arrest you.

Now, I'll say two things:
1. Not everything that endanger the life of citizens is a crime. If it were so, all tobacco and cigarette producers should be in jail. Or All those involved in the exploration of oil ln Rivers State should also be in jail because of the soot. What counts is what aspect or part of the law was broken.

2. If this matter were to go to court (as petty as it is) the state will loose. Because there is no evidence that there was a fire or any thing that could spark a fire. And please don't even say generator. If generator was something that could spark a fire, there wouldn't be filling stations because Filling stations use generators.

kolagbemi:

With this your logic, any action that did not directly cause harm isn't a crime.....then one wonders why you get booked for a traffic violation despite no accident occurred. Why should you get booked for drinking and driving when you didn't drive dangerously neither were you involved in an accident, after all, it's your money, your mouth and your stomach. Bro it's about the other citizens not just you alone.

In other society tobacco production, smoking or Smokin at a wrong designated points are offence. Just the way tailgating, turning on a wrong lane are offences but your likes will call it "petty offence" yet you want naija to be like Dubai.

Now, were you born when the government ban buying of fuel in a jerry can? That's one direct offence committed by them.

I hope you will volunteer to go defend the offenders in court, you can asked them to withdraw the apology already tendered too.

Try and learn

Don't get emotional.

I didn't say "things that endanger the lives of citizens are not crimes" I said "not everything" And I say again, not everything.
What matters is the law. What should matter is the law(what it says concerning the subject matter)

And don't divert to smoking tobacco in certain places because it is actually a crime to smoke in certain places in Nigeria (even some big hotels)

But the real harm is not smoking it in a particular place but actually smoking it. No matter where the act is done.

Those guys that ban it in their buildings are just saying, "hey, don't smoke here, smoke somewhere else"

No2. The ban on petroleum was a very obnoxious law. Other states also banned last year but it hasn't been enforced. If it was being enforced, even you and I should have entered the police custody because of it and let me remind you, a law is only as good as when it's enforced. If not, it's not a law.

No3. Even though there is no evidence to the "apology" you said they gave, I'm not sure I'll be surprised if it's true. I mean have you ever had an encounter with the NPF? If not, I pray you don't. Even when you're right and on your right, you will still be the one saying "sorry" with money in your hands. So yeah, they must apologize. That doesn't mean their action was wrong.

Lastly, you still haven't shown me the part of the law that was broken exactly.

Police wan chop. Come Abuja from City Gate reach Airport kegs of petrol hawkers line the streets no arrest.

Some gives betta souvenir una wan arrest am.

So no plastic keg selling petrol person on the streets of Lagos? Where are they storing the petrol?
Mr police, this is nigeria and since 1800 we have been buying petrol in kegs storing the petrol kegs in our cars, homes, offices etc

You are aware of the petrol situation in the country.

Arrest those who have caused the petrol scarcity. Yes, police can do that.

The good news is that the event manager and the owner of havilah event center must be arrested and fined heavily to deter such occurrence in the future. Those two key pple are the real cause of this show of mediocrity in the sense of being generous. It is not done and must be condoned by its entirety.

Pple will surely take what they are offered at anywhere as a sign of appreciation by the planner which is totally wrong. Distributing PM's as souvenirs lol who does that, it can only happen in Nigeria anyway.

Yes, the petrol scarcity is a problem...and the people responsible should and MUST be punished....but the people were really taking risks sharing fuel in a place where all sorts of stuff could have ignited it, and caused an explosion.....

As someone said...they could have shared it elsewhere....maybe in an empty fuel station...

Let's call spade a spade, it is totally wrong to share fuel as souvenir at a party, do you know what that means. You are part of Nigeria's problem because you typed Asif PM's is kind of chin chin or bread that is shared everywhere. I bet you don't understand what safety of life and property means. Google it or go to school for better orientation.

Unfortunately, the police is right on these matter... Illegal fuel storage, especially in such large amounts constitute security risk to the immediate environment...
A slight misadventure could leave to explosions as powerful as a bomb and cause deaths n damages... So organizers needs to be questioned for endangering the community...
