IS THE BYE ELECTIONS CONDUCTED ACCROSS THE COUNTRY THIS PAST SATURDAY, A WASTE OF THE ALREADY SEVERELY LIMITED RESOURCES OF THE COUNTRY?
Inec and electioneering campaign enterprenuers are the only people laughing to the banks.

In Celestine Omehia election case that saw him thrown out the river state government house and replaced by Chibuike Ameachi, the Nigerian Supreme Court held that under our constitution, it is the party and not the individual candidate that wins election,
Due to this holding by the supreme court, several changes have been made by inec to conform with this final interpretation of our elections by the Supreme Court. For example, prior to this interpretation, the ballot paper contained both a picture of the candidate and his or her party's logo but that is no longer the case. It is now just the logo of the party on the ballot paper signifying that a voter is only voting for the party and not any individual.
Again in kogi state , the candidate of Apc in a governorship election died before the polls was concluded having garnered majority of the valid votes but his running mate was disqualified from assuming his votes, however his party Apc was allowed to assume the votes which the party then assigned to a fresh candidate, an unknown quantity in the politics of kogi state.
The ruling that it is the political party that wins election is being taken advantage of in some instances by some political parties by fielding two candidates in one election.
In okigwe Imo North Senatorial bye election , Apc successfully fielded two candidates by the help of court filings.
I raised the issue that the Pdp candidate in that election contested against two Apc candidate who campaigned separately until the final day of campaigns prompting Inec to only announce the political party that won without announcing the individual candidate.
I raised the question that is the caption of this piece for the following reasons:
A) since our election circle is four years, a political party that wins an election should be expected to hold the seat for the four year term.
If the votes garnered in an election by a candidate of a party can be transferred to a fresh candidate selected by the party, why are we having these by elections in light that a party had already won the seat for four years.
Elections are destabilizing, why are we subjecting our citizens to the instability occasioned by elections where it is not necessary.
I am informed that the bye election conducted in my state, Imo State recorded a casualty,
Is the election worth the life of this individual?
In most countries, the state governor just appoints an individual to fill the seat in the event the seat was held by his party . If not the opposition party conducts a primary in the constituency to fill the position.

Neither Umahi nor the court that sacked him means well for the masses. It is all about selfish (personal) political interest. Is it this year that Umahi joined APC? Was the court sleeping until today? They just weaponize everything when they are desperate to remove obstacles on their way.
