No matter what type of car you drive or what type of driver you are, road safety considerations are extremely important. This is why modern vehicles have so many necessary safety features and why you take so many precautions as a driver on the road.

If you take all the necessary precautions, there are a few more road safety tips you may not know that you should consider:

ROAD SAFETY TIPS YOU SHOULD KNOW

Eliminate the blind spot

You probably know about your rear view mirror’s “blind spot”: the area on both sides of your car that are invisible to both side mirrors. You can easily overcome this problem by moving both mirrors apart until your car is no longer visible in either mirror. This will ensure that any passing car stays inside at least one of your mirrors until it enters your line of sight.

Also focus on traffic, not just traffic signs

Traffic signs are there for a very good reason: they regulate traffic on the road. However, you should also pay close attention to what other drivers are doing, this is called “defensive driving.”

Pay attention to the music you listen to while driving

Listening to music can be a great way to stay alert and focused on driving. It can also hamper your safety if the music is too loud or too high-tempo. Studies have shown that drivers who listen to slower music or no music at all are less likely to commit road offences and have accidents than drivers who listen to music of between 120 and 140 beats per minute (the speed of most dance and techno music).

Always keep your headlights on

Although you might think you only need to have your headlights on in the dark and in low light conditions, a recent study found that driving with your headlights on all the time can reduce the risk of being involved in an accident, so get into the habit of turning on the headlights every time you drive.
