THERE IS NO AMBIGUITY IN THE VERSE. IT IS STARIGHT FORWARD AND CLEAR.

Judah's son dishonored the heritage by pouring away the semens which would have keep his brother as the sole beneficiary of becoming the ancestor of the Messiah so God is not pleased with him that's why he was struck dead.
