CPC flays UK's denial of visa to Momoh


The Congress for Progressive Change said on Thursday that the refusal of the United Kingdom to issue an entry visa to its National Chairman, Prince Tony Momoh, was suspect.

The party said it was aware that the UK diplomatic mission had been arm twisted to take the decision to deny Momoh visa to the UK.

The party urged diplomatic missions in the country not to dabble into the politics of their host nations.

CPC National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, said the denial of the entry visa was based on some clandestine criteria and not on the evidence supplied in the application for the entry permit.

"We are not unaware of the immense pressure that the powers that hold sway within the political firmament place on everyone, diplomatic missions inclusive, within the nation space; but it is our considered belief that fairness should be the predication of every policy implementation," Fashakin said.

Fashakin said Momoh would not appeal the decision of the British mission to deny him the visa, the party however appealed to all diplomatic missions in the country to remain apolitical and untainted in their roles in the nation's politics.

The CPC, in a statement made available in Abuja, quoted the British High Commission as saying Momoh was denied a visa because he was not well established in the UK, despite evidence that a British citizen with a five-bedroom apartment and an appropriate bank balance would receive him in the UK,

According to the statement, the British High Commissioner said, "You have not provided any evidence that your sponsor is able to accommodate you as you claim. You have failed to provide any evidence that there is adequate room for you, nor have you shown whether your sponsor is financially responsible for anyone else.

"I am not satisfied you are satisfactorily established in this country or have demonstrated strong ties to it. Nor can I be satisfied that you intend to leave the UK at the end of the period as stated by you and as required by paragraph 41(ii) of HC395."

It is in the best interest of any security conscious country (such as the UK) to deny blood-sucking vampires such as Buhari and Mujahid Momoh entry visas.
