A soldier with the Nigerian army’s operation
Hadin Kai in Borno state killed three
civilians on Wednesday, March 23.
According to The Cable, the soldier said to
have been under the influence of
“psychotropic substances” without any
provocation, opened fire on the residents of
Mafa town in Mafa Local Government Area
of the state.
"The lifeless bodies of three persons were
laying down flat at Mafa presently while
many people sustained gunshot wounds,” a
witness said.
About 13 civilians are said to be currently
receiving treatment following the gunshot
injuries.
It was learnt that the military authorities
have already disarmed and arrested the
soldier.
There have been a couple of instances in
which soldiers serving in the north-east
opened fire on civilians or their colleagues.
In 2017, a soldier was sentenced to death
over the alleged murder of five civilians in
Borno.
In 2020, a soldier killed his superior who
refused to give him a pass to visit his family.

The officer may not be under the influence of alcohol but under the influence of frustration.

Problem is, this is where it'll stop. Just arrest and nothing more.
Soldiers are usually in units or groups... So where were his colleagues when he was taking that substance??
Probably, they were also under the influence.
Instead of just arresting him, they should keep pumping him full dosage of that substance and let him loose when boko boys come around.
