Luke 9:1-2
Then Jesus called together the Twelve (apostles) and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. Then He sent them out to announce and preach the kingdom of God and to bring healing

Not only do we see many examples of praying the name of Jesus, but we also need to recognise that the power of attorney gives the right to command in Jesus’ name.

We pray and ask the Father for things in Jesus’ name, but we command the enemy in that name also. We speak to circumstances and principalities and powers, using the authority that has been given to us by virtue of the power of attorney invested in us by Jesus himself. Remember, Peter and John commanded the crippled man to walk. They said, “I do not have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk.” The cure was instant and undeniable; resulting in the man’s praising God. This is the first of many demonstrations of divine power given to the disciples in the book of Acts.

In exercising our ministry, when we cast out demons, we don’t lay hands on a person and begin to pray for God to cast it out. We command it to come out in the name of Jesus. We have already done our praying. We have already been to the Father in Jesus name and enjoyed our fellowship with Him. We have already talked to him and asked Him to grant us power over demons so we can help people when that kind of ministry is needed. Now we should go and used the power He has granted us, and we must exercise the authority inherent in the name of His son Jesus.

James 5:14-15
Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.

When we pray for people, we must take authority over whatever situation they are facing. It is important that we know when to pray and when to command.  When Jesus was ministering to people or dealing with demons, He commanded healing and deliverance. He did not stop at that time and pray. He had already done His praying. Examination of the NT finds Jesus frequently going off for periods of meditation and prayer. It says, “And He went up into the mountains and prayed all night.”

The same principle holds true for us. If we are to be effective in ministry, we must be attuned to and in communion and fellowship with our heavenly Father. Spend time daily with the Lord. Fellowship, asks, pray, seek and come out of that time with Him equipped for the job at hand. Then fully equipped, go and do it. Exercise the authority that has been given to you in Jesus name.

The MD of a business organisation has authority to use the name of that organisation to get things done. But that authority is given and maintained based on a relationship with the owners of the business.  Within that organisation, the MD delegates that authority to departmental heads who also assign authority to first line management. Everyone within the organisation has the authority to use the name of the business based on the level they are within that organisational structure.

This same principle can be applied to the body of Christ (The church); the release to use the name of Jesus with signs following is established in regular fellowship with God.  Based on that relationship, it is God that will invest in you the power needed to use the Name effectively. More the fellowship, more the power to use the name.

CONCLUSION

So are you surprised when people flock to meetings to receive their healing? Please don’t be.

Acts 5:15-16
As a result of the apostles’ work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter’s shadow might fall across some of them as he went by. CROWDS came from the villages around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those possessed by evil spirits, and THEY WERE ALL HEALED.
