He's the eldest son of the family and he just turned 32 this week.
He's a HND graduate of Mechanical engineering. Graduated in 2011. Since then, he has tried all means to get a job, but has been unable to. He later got a job in 2013 as a secondary school teacher. With salary of 19k. He did that for 2 years

Few years later in 2015, luckily he got a job with Access Bank. He worked there for 2 years, before he was sacked following a downsize.

He has been unemployed since 2017. We have tried everything, we have used church routes and all manner of approach. He has tried to even join navy, the man who promised the job, said his connect needs 150k. We gave 50k, with the promise that the remaining will be paid when the recruitment list is out. He ran away with it, list came out and nothing


He currently lives in the family house, we have submitted CV tire. Promises upon promises.
Now the girl he was planning to marry, a very gentle God fearing lady who has been faithful and loyal to him despite him having nothing at all. Her parents are pressuring her to bring a groom. He wants to marry her, but ashamed to present himself as he is.

Currently he's running a small scale poultry in the family compound. But it doesn't do much.

we are not begging for alms or financial aid, but please if you have a job he can do or an open position, please lend a helping hand

He's willing to travel anywhere in the country. He's a graduate of engineering with strong 2.1

There's no engineering job in Nigeria again except you are seriously connected. A lot of my friends did engineering and are unemployed now. The few ones who managed to find employment earn less than 50k a month. The ones practicing and doing well are those whose parents were rich enough to send them abroad.

Honestly that's the only way the Nigerian economy isn't fit for any business. People have no purchasing power now and only focus on the essentials. Someone mentioned mechanic, I was an auto mechanic and the salary for auto mechanics in Lagos is 25000. That's at very high class independent workshops. You work 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Saturday. At places like west star and coscharis it goes to 50000 and that's it. To be an independent mechanic and work for people to get money is not easy. Drive your car into any mechanic village and see the swarm of mechanics that come at you to fix your car.

The country is completely destroyed, I am just glad I don't have a Nigerian child.

Please anyone that can help. We're not necessarily looking for a very high paying job like that

Your main problem now is not employment. Your main problem is his dilapidating depression.

The depression itself will affect his ability to execute he activities to improve his situation. So focusing on those activities alone might not help.

You need to either:

a) Focus on the depression and then later focus on the activities.

or

b) Focus on the depression and activities simultaneously.

I think (b) might be the best solution as you guys are not from a well-off family, hence can't spend long focusing on depression. When I say "focus on the depression", I mean get him professional help.

Secondly, not everyone is skilled and great at running their own business. As a matter of fact, majority of human beings aren't.

You can by-pass this challenge by getting him or connecting him with an unemployed business partner who is skilled at running a business and just lets your brother do the day-to-day work, like an employee, but they share the profits.

This is so not true. I Studied Telecommunications Engineering and earned 50k for just an internship in Lagos for my 6 months SIWES. NYSC earned the same as us.

Fresh graduates in the ISP I did my internship got 202k for a start. There were engineers with just 3 yrs' experience earning 600k.

We knew no one, just four rounds of interviews. That's for networking though. Network Engineers are having jobs That pays well. That's If you have Linux, Networking skill and industry certifications.

Huawei does job fair yearly. Last year was at ATBU and UI. Close to 10 persons from my department got placed then. That's from a class of 50+.

If not for software development, I would have aimed to get a CCIE and earn the millions that comes with. But I love Codes also, and had to work remotely. But I'm still heading to Germany for masters in My Field(Japa Goals)

Access bank posted a CCIE job for 7 months and didn't get a hire. Because companies don't want to lose the ones they have.

There's job for the skilled Network engineers in the IT part of Engineering. Not just software development. Nigerian graduates don't have skills at entry level. Before I went for internship, I had Linux, HCIA and Python programming skill. This was embedded in my curriculum, and extra study I did.

Your brother needs to upskill himself.
Looking or waiting for A job does not make sense at this time.

As an engineering graduate, he shld be able to learn how to write programme and get freelance jobs.
He can also try online businesses like affiliate marketing or writing kindle books.
A mentor can put him through.

If you want to venture into Networking, then get the following done:

1. Get proficient at the CCNA level and write the exam.
Try David Bombel and Neil Anderson on Udemy. Their courses cost just 3500.

Make sure you do the lab and understand all those protocols, and implement them on Packet Tracer (Cisco Simulator). Things like VLANs, OSPF, STP, Sub-netting, TCP/IP and IPV4/6 should be solid in you both theoretical and lab wise.

2. Get comfortable with Linux

3. Learn Python(Automation is a hotcake in networking now due to the rise of SDN)

Three months should be enough for you to achieve this. With that, an entry-level role as a support engineer would be easy.

A mech engineering graduate has no business being unemployed. Let him go and learn generator repair or vehicle repair. If he's determined, he can learn everything he needs to setup shop in one or two years.

I bet you, he'll never look for a job again. Even if he's offered one, he will reject it.
