Emenike detained in Turkey for match fixing

Turkish football giants, Fenerbahçe's new signing, Emmanuel Emenike was, on Sunday, detained at the Istanbul Police Department alongside the club’s president, Aziz Yildirim, as part of a Turkish police investigation, launched in 15 provinces within the country, over match-fixing allegations.

Local media reports disclosed that investigations are ongoing over suspected match fixing in the Turkish Super League and the lower league called Bank Asya League 1.

Fenerbahçe won the league, which ended in March.

Police are reportedly investigating Fenerbahçe's matches against Eskisehirspor and their last game against Sivasspor that won them the title.

Cihan News Agency, a media organisation in Turkey, said at least 100 people have been detained as part of the investigation.

The detainees include Trabzonspor Deputy President Nevzat Sakar, Fenerbahçe Deputy President Sekip Mosturoglu, Giresunspor President Omer Ulku, former Diyarbakırspor Chairman Abdurrahman Yakut, Eskisehirspor coach Bulent Uygun, Adanaspor coach Levent Eris, and players Umit Karan, Serkan Calik, Serdar Kulbilge, Mehmet Yildiz, Korcan Celikay and Sezer Ozturk.

Meanwhile, the police are still searching for Ihsan Eksioglu, a member of the Fenerbahçe sports club's executive committee.
