Death is a curse, and as the Old Covenant verse suggests those who are sentenced to death by the law are condemned/cursed by it. Hanging a cursed individual on tree served as a warning sign to others.

So the author of Galatians didn't get it wrong on this one at all..

It seems you don't even realize what the Law, in its entirety is really about, from your comment above.

The same author of the letter to Galatians is assumed to have referred to the same Old Covenant Law of Moses as the Law of Sin and Death, you know why?

A. Deuteronomy 21 :22&23 is one sentence

First, second and third clauses:
if a man commits a sin deserving of death, put to death, and then you hang him on a tree

Fourth, fifth/sixth clauses: His body shall not be left on the tree overnight, so that you do not DEFILE the land

Last clause ( ; ) for He
'He' is the man who commits a sin deserving of death,
And whose body was left on the tree overnight

Christians believe Christ didn't commit any sin deserving of death but was meant to die for their salvation.

"IF a man has committed a sin deserving of death.."

The word is "if" and "when".

And the Judges of the day adjudged Him an "IF" and "Whend" Him. Even if there Judgement was a Perversion.
