Dont kid yourself, we all know Nairaland and most opinions expressed on this forum are far removed from the reality that is todays Nigeria and wld therefor be nothing but a self delusionary gauge of the opinion of Nigerians. I'm sure the defunct team BB wld agree with me. As for your using the catchphrase 'if well managed', I just have to wonder what an Mod is insinuating.

I totally disagree with you. I beleive that Nigerians speak their minds on Nairaland. That is the right guage of the opinion of Nigerians. That is the reality of today's Nigeria.

Nairaland has done so much, If this is the  first time it is quoted, then I am surprised this is the first time it is being quoted in an article in a Nigerian Newspaper.

President GEJ (and other prominent Nigerians) should sign up on Nairaland, make it public and promote it, that was what Obama did to facebook. That is one practical example of patronising 'made in Nigeria goods' he has been preaching. Simple way of transforming Nigeria!

You know what I hate about we Nigerians? We are so full of sentiments, immediate gratification of a peasant ideas and plans. I don't see anything affirmative Mr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has done to buttress the service of CBN to the good of the nation. Creating poultry farm, Islamic Banking and investing in world class hotel has nothing to do with the larger economy at all, it only paints the economy with whitewash colors which on the long is going to fade away quickly. Maybe the farms and the hotel would be bought by his family has time goes on.

My take on this issue is that we Nigerians are so myopic( I don't know if it's due to the level of poverty in the country) to see that these are not what the country needs the CBN to do but, to make reforms that will reduce national inflation (poultry farm can not do that neither will Islamic Banking) and build confidence in the Nigerian banking system. Also to provide avenue for commercial banks, morgages, credit banks for infrastrutural development, give credits to small scheme industries, buinesses and Agriculture. It needs to create an atmosphere for  foreign investments. There's no success in any nation development without foreign investments. We so much think Nigerians can do all things by themselves without the technical know how of foreigners, with such thinking Nigeria is heading toward the wrong direction. What I like so much about the argument here is that it is the same Sanusi Lamido who opted for Islamic Banking system(a non-profit making banking) to be implementing in Nigeria is the same person building a world class hotel for profitability.

Farming and hotel management or rather construction are not the duties of CBN, there are banks met for those. This has gone to prove that Sanusi Lamido don't even understand how the system works. It is sad to know that Central Bank has now become "jack-of-all-trade".

My fellow Nigerians, it is interesting to be moved by such ephemera peasant plans that will not lead the country to development yet it sad to know, at the long run, those of us who are seeing this as a way forward will clamor for Lamido failure and to be removed from office- time will tell.

I have my fingers crossed at the moment. And, I don't think CBN, in all ramification is doing the right thing that will help the nation to achieve its aims(as regard Millenium Development Goals).

Let me quickly bring in this offtopic line. Our infrastructure is in shambles, no detail attentions are given to works done( just look at how ugly our cities and towns are), unemployment on the rise, Insurrance company not effective,Erratic power supply system, poverty lingering in all parts of the country, etc. These may not be related to the Central Bank control but they've gone a long to prove how incompetent our leaders are in  their endevours to carry out their duties and, CBN governor is not exempted.

@ Jarus
But whatever the case, Nairaland will soon become the go-to for policy evaluation discourses in Nigeria, if well managed.

Well said, the site is already a force to reckon with and will continue to be as long as the owner does not allow it to lose credibility, so long as he does not compromise himself with the establishment in a bid to 'make it'

late to the party.
that article is scary.
Can we have a bit of an educated argument here.
What exactly is the role of a central(reserve) bank?
so many of the CBN's recent actions are perplexing to say the least.
i ask this question because at the rate we are going,we might wake up one morning and here that the CBN has merged with UBA.

If you also notice, teh writer did not introduce Nairaland, for instance, say something like 'a commenter in one poupular Nigerian website, Nairaland'. He mentioned Nairaland straight away, meaning he assumed, rightly, that Nairaland is too popular in Nigeria not to be known by internet savvy person or even person literate enough to read him in newspaper.
Five years ago, you cant quote nairaland without devoting at least one line to explain what you mean. Today, when quote google, facebook, wikipedia, you don't need to tell readers what it is. That is exactly the implication of mentioning NL on that assumption.

NL has always been an elite forum for Nigerians. You guys wont believe the type of people that frequents here. Most of the onlines battles on issues concerning Nigerians are fought here. So the need arises for NLer's to always offer an insightful opinion.

SLS has finally lost it,  cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

You guys should wait for the best,  This is the man who's supposedly to rescue Nigeria's economy, and he's gonna do that with poultry farm. I laugh in Swahili cheesy cheesy. This man has no blueprint to move Nigeria's economy forward and not just the banks.

Well Nairaland should spend money in promoting itself on Nigeria media houses. In events like this, Nairaland will publish an article expressing supporting and opposing views.

Reports reaching us also indicates that the CBN will now build stalls in ALL BUS STOPS in Nigeria so as to sell "STANDARD SHEPPE" as opposed to the inferior ones being produced by illiterate people.

This would in turn generate at least a thousand jobs in the near future!

Bravo to our ever indefatigable SANUSI!

Now l know what makes Sanusi "high", no wonder! grin

Chicken koo, fowl niiii

Him for they breed Hawks and Eagles sef, craze man!
Re: Nairaland Quoted In Sanusi Critique In Thisday Newspaper by manny4life(m): 3:23am On Jul 05, 2011
Perhaps someone need to remind this man called Sanusi his job.

According to the report, inflation rate up to 20%? This is really serious considering the fact that this mean has finally lost it. Just because the CBN is an independent agency and is into profit activities doesn't mean the Bank should start engaging in commercial and interstate trade; this is ridiculous. I said this in my some of my post on other threads; this man is driving this country way off course, high unemployment and inflation and has no solid blue print for this nation's economy and IF at all he's really interested in making money and diversification, use the banks. This man has about excess 900billion in circulation, about to spiral into huge inflation, why don't this idiot pull this money out of circulation, disburse about 10% of that amount to banks as loans based upon different projects.

For instance, rather than Sanusi engage in poultry farming or cattle rearing, how about him meet with ALL Bank executives, introduce a CBN diversification program (Agricultural) platform which supports all forms of Agriculture. Agricultural farming is seasonal, assuming their are 25banks who wish to participate in the diversification program, Sanusi will give them guidelines on how loans should be disbursed. Sanusi sells loans to the banks at a low interest maybe 3%, banks in turn sell that loan to commercial agricultural farmers for no more than 6%. It's a win-win, CBN did not have to directly engage in poultry or fish farming but through programs and guidelines (strong fraud and audit integrity unit), the banks were used as a channel to disburse money so it's circulation and CBN doesn't look like an effin joke. At the end of the Agricultural cycle, poultry farmers pay their funds back to the bank, bank pays CBN it's 3% interest.

This is the reason why I said I DON'T TRUST HIM; he's using funds how he likes. How are we not so sure he won't "SECRETLY" disburse money to JAIZ Islamic bank at 0.05% interest or non at all and JAIZ use it and disburse to Dangote and co with low interest or none at all meanwhile non Sharia banks are struggling with keeping high interest rate

I CANT HELP BUT SAY !
I TOLD Y'all so !

But Nigerians r not as smart as you might think.
A guy that does not have a masters degree in any financial field not even economics.
A guy who can hardly be described as stellar in the banking industry.

A who only got there as a result of yar'duas backward and reckless tribalistic nothern agenda.
He came in and blew hot air and we all danced !

U lot haven't seen anything yet.
Do you remember the banking industry b4 Soludo, well we are there now.

The banking sector will no longer be a player in the economic picture.
I predicted that it willl become comatose and dead.
