The tragic death of ''Ekwueme singer'' Osinachi Nwachukwu, should be a wake-up call to our churches. According to Vanguard's interview with her older sister, Osinachi's husband was so abusive to his wife. He kicked her on the chest, she fall down and he took her to a hospital in Abuja were they reside, and she later kicked the bucket!

Pentecostal and Orthodox churches should start encouraging women in abusive marriage to divorce, and they should. Men are in abusive marriages too, and same thing should be applied.

Enough of this intervention by the priest or counseling by the pastor till someone get killed by heartbreak or physical attack.

It does not make sense that our church doctrines frown at divorce, and yet we keep losing the finest of our married people, especially women, in the hands of the men they love and called the husband that they are married to.

Many women are trapped in abusive marriage because of the respect they have for their pastors and the reverence they have for their priests. Why allow yourself be brainwashed to this extent by religious belief that divorce is unchristian and sinful, even when danger knocks at your door so hard? Or is it actions of biological love hormone called, oxytocin hormone? Whatever it is, resist it, and save your life.

Men who beat their wives at the slightest provocation are damaged men, and women who emotionally abuse their husbands with mostly hurtful words they always vomit on his ears are damaged too. Both, believe the world isn't fair or listening to them, so they take out their rage and frustration on their wives and husbands.

For some of them, they don't heal for life.

This is why I believe strongly that young men and women desirous of settling down should first heal from their childhood trauma and scars by going to therapy.

Our churches should take the lead by ensuring that men and women, who want to marry in their church have healed from their childhood trauma by making it mandatory that they go for therapy before the wedding, and also encouraging the woman and man (in some cases), to divorce when the marriage has broken down because of demostic violence.
