One of the major reasons President Putin of Russia gave for invading Ukraine was to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. Putin simply does not want any of his neighbours to become a NATO country.

Well that calculation seems to have backfired since the war began as Finland that borders Russia to West, as well as Sweden, are on verge of deciding to join NATO, with an official decision expected from both countries as early as next week.

If Putin was hoping to stop NATO expansion by invading Ukraine, he has inadvertently increased it. Traditionally non-aligned countries like Finland and Sweden have watched with amazement the level of support Ukraine is getting from from NATO countries and this has caused many Finns and Swedes to openly demand that their countries join NATO

It is widely believed that Sweden and Finland will announce their intention to join NATO in the coming week

There's definitely a reason why those countries are wanting to join NATO.
