Pls Advise!!! Between Dubai And Uk by Bajinotu: 1:43pm On Apr 16, 2022
This is my 6th year in dubai, so far so good, I have been able to secure a good job for about 1year now with 680k/month salary(with latest exchange rate).
I have been in touch with a friend in UK and he wants guide me on how to run uk application(school stuff shha) with my wife. I have been seriously thinking alot about the uk stuff as i feel like am due to change environment. I was delibrating to run the uk against jan/feb admission.

Boom!!! Just this week, management in my company reviewed by performance at work for the past one year through my manager and other project managers i have worked with, they were impressed by the outcome and i got an official email yesterday that i will be getting an increment effective from this month(2000aed)... This is now 996k/month with the current xchange rate. I am just confused as i feel like it seems this is not the time to go out of dubai based on this new salary, I want to enjoy the salary for as long as i can before i change environment.

This is where i need the advice, i dont know the situation of things in uk whether it is good enough to leave this kind of salary and push for the uk or not. I know people on NL will give me better picture of situation in uk in terms whether it is better off in uk. Reason for trying to leave dubai is for the sake of family and permanent stay. Dubai is not easy to accommodate family and it is always 2years renewable visa headache.

Thanks in advance..

That is as good as it gets (already). Already you have (a meaningful) employment, you dont seem stressed. I dont know the rate of Taxes and the cost of utilities/living expenses in dubai, but i know that it is a "constant drain " in the uk .

With the russo-ukraine crises, inflation has risen 14% in the UK, reflecting in utilities and food costs... I dunno if prices have risen in the UAE.

If you have a job offer in the UK and you have counted the cost...if it's worth it, go for it. But if dubai ain't stressing you and your money's piling... my friend... count the cost.

Reality is unconcerned about sentiments.

N:B - I DON'T KNOW YOUR Sector but.. this decision is best if you carry out a comparative analysis.

Wish you the best.

Thanks for the response sir.

I dont have a job offer, i only want to try the uk via schooling and see how it goes from there. I am more after my family because it is not easy to live as a family man here in dubai. Also in dubai, no one knows what will happen after 2years of contract, dubai govt might decide not renew visa for Nigerians, Company might decide to cut cost as well... You never know.
I will still eventually leave this dubai, but i feel like with this new salary, i should not leave now, let me just cash in as much as i can, get some things done and leave later. I feel like i should just pend the uk thing for now and focus back on dubai as i dont know whats up in uk that much. I feel like better i stay here, save as much as possible so that by the time i will be starting uk, i will have enough to take care of unforseen emergencies. If i try uk now, more like i will spend all i have with no reserve at all

only bounce to the UK when A) you have a job offer over there that will bring you the same lifestyle (i said "lifestyle"....NOT the same salary o, because we all know how expensive UK is) or B) if you've saved enough money that can pay for 6 months rent/food/expenses etc minimum, in the UK.

U mean 2000 aed is now 996k plus which literally means nigeria is now the worst country on earth with our currency getting devalued everyday

I got angry and left Dubai after working for 4years plus on a pay of 1400aed then Which was just about 100k 14years ago.

Nigerians were suffering in Uae and it was pure slavery and just a vacation hub

I advice you to leave dubai if you can get to uk legitimately it is better for you.

I know everything about the Middle East coz I have been to almost all the countries kuwait Qatar Oman Bahrain . These countries will never grant citizenship and they don’t allow foreigners to marry their own.

Let me give an honest opinion if I'm in your shoe. Get UK admission now, pay tuition deposit up to half or more & defer till like sept 2023 or when you think you will be ready. Since u work with PMs, I guess u are in construction or IT. These 2 areas are not doing badly in UK & chances of getting jobs is high when you eventually transit from student. Other option is for you to get your wife on study in UK while u follow as dependent & work on full-time, it will help u get urself up quickly.

This is exactly what my friend explained to me. The thing is my wife has NCE, she just got an admission to continue her degree(part time), so taking the ootion of uk, I will be the one running the school and she will be the one doing the full time job.
I am a jack off all trade(lol). I am a HSE practitioner in dubai, so i fit abit into any field. The thing dubai is not reliable at all, anything can happen at any time and if i have to proceed with the uk now, it means my wife has to drop her degree programme, i have to cut myself out of work(i dont have enough in reserve). I am just confused if its really worth dropping all these because of uk.

I know uk is not a mate of dubai in terms of standard of living and quality of life, but part of me wants the move, but another part if me is telling to wait awhile, get much from the salary, get some personal projects done and move later.

To be honest, my initial plans were to have my own building in Nigeria, have a personal car and have a personal business. With this, i know if anything happens in dubai, i have things to fall back to and if everything is fine in dubai, i can try another country at that time. Once i get to another country, my business will run an contribute to the struggle before i stabilize in another country.

Right, i have an ongoing project at home which is at the roofing stage, with the new salary it can fast track all my plans, finishing the building, setting up a personal business and get a small car and still have enough to try uk( with this, i still need to be in dubai for roughly 2years). Moving to uk now, it means i am cancelling everything with no backup all for uk, the whole thing is just somehow to me

Urs situation is straightforward except if u wanna complicate it yourself. Honestly, u don't have business with building in Nigeria at dis point. Immigration is a project on his own & u need liquid cash not asset 2 survive it hence discard d building or stop d construction 4 u 2 safe in foreign currency. Don't try keeping ur money in naira. Get urself Nebosh if u don't have, prepare ur wife 4 jobs in UK & go 2 cities that u have good family support bubble. Its not going 2 be easy but if you follow dis advise strictly & ur wife coperate, u will give testimony in 2yrs on dis nairaland.

People of God I need help please ....

My husband is in UK on a student visa ,and he wants me to join him as soon as possible as a dependent. but my problem is I am pregnant and scared if I’ll be denied entry Uk .Aberdeen precisely
My question-
Is it possible to travel to the Uk with pregnancy?
Re: Pls Advise!!! Between Dubai And Uk by damoche64: 7:49am On Apr 18, 2022
U won't be denied based on pregnancy, just make sure you fulfill all requirements for the dependent visa. Practically, u & ur husband will need to be very strong to live & hustle with pregnancy or baby in UK cos childcare is expensive except u're able 2 find someone 2 help. All d best.

I Dont even get why you are still considering it... pray about it..let God lead you... you might want to consider DOCUMENTS, living abroad that is very important.... with the 6 productive years you have lived in the middle east, if you had spent it in the UK via school, you would have started processing getting you and your family UK CITIZENSHIP...something you will NEVER GET IN THE UAE.... think about it

Pls reject this advice. Don’t listen to this person that doesn’t have international passport

Continue saving and saving. Just work for now suspend all plans and just be working normal normal as you have been doing. When the end of your contract reaches come to nairaland and ask again. By then you would have saved up to 4-5 million if not more in addition to what you have. UK na expenses and God help you if you no get sponsor. Citizenship can wait citizenship no day run away

Why an average Nigerians are not civilised?
This is a public forum & anybody is free to advice the poster & u don't need to attack a faceless person. He decides whether any advice is good 4 him or not. If you have failed as a UK depotee or anywhere, you don't need to attack anyone, just drop your advice & move on. Travelling & living abroad requires alot of planning & consultation with right people if u wanna stand up quickly. The poster is hardworking for getting his employer increase his salary especially in UAE. If he continues that tenacity, he'll surely get it right in any country he moved 2 but his concern is uncertainty with visa renewal in UAE & he want a better life 4 his family.

I have heard of people earning 2m per month abandoning it here in Naija to the US, Canada and UK.

If you have spent that 6 years you spent in UAE in the UK you would have had a far better life than what you have now.

UAE is denial Nigerians work permit as we speak.

You , your wife and children will never be citizen even if you spend all your life there.

Guy even if it is the citizen you would have over to yourself and family for staying in the UK please and please go and forget UAE.

Summary: Short time benefits UAE
Long time benefits - UK

well my advise .. just an advise though
Option 1. UK is not running away, UK will still be there by next year. Why not enjoy your salary for one more year and save accordingly before making the move

Option 2. If your wife is still giving birth, why not send her to a country like Brazil to give birth so the entire family can secure permanent residence there and perhaps passport in about a year. Then you can stay in your Dubai while you are sure of a plan B in place.

By the way, UK is via free to Brazil passport holders
