Why has Nigeria become so divided politically and socially?

A certain amount of division is normal, to be expected. Especially for peace times. In times of war or disaster often that division is narrowed.

Prior to the rise of APC, they tried to keep Nigerians perpetually outraged and angry and clued in to what “the other side” is up to "corruption ". They just keep pumping out the outraged in order to keep you focused on them as saviours . And it worked?!!

The APC adopted a divisive approach to politics in which lying and misrepresentation became an all too common tool in their campaigning and in their legislative rhetoric.

This is the natural result of a broadening understanding of the people who make up a society, supported by a free press.

It was all lies or half truth or else how do you tag an individual as corrupt in one instance and exonorate or embrace the corrupt individual suddenly.

Stupidity can't be fixed. Unfortunately, I believe that Nigeria will always be divided.

I think the biggest reason for this situation sits in the biased propaganda.

I think a lot of people (on both sides) just don't have the maturity to question what they see, hear or smell… they just believe everything.

A country where minorities are victims of a political system that wants to suppress diversities;

A country that lives by the survival law of the strongest…

A country where ethnicity and religious bigotry is valued at the detriment of patriotism, justice and equity.

or a country that is constantly bending backward to accommodate citizens that don't respect the Nigerian Constitution;

A country that accepts mediocracy Where technocracy doesn't strive to reach the highest ambitions;

Yes the APC have built a country that wants to be lazy expecting a Government handout.

God help us all.

Nigeria was never a United Nations, is not a United nation and will never be a United nation. APC only made it very obvious and never again will Nigeria be seen as one.

"Things has fallen apart" and "The gods are to blame".

I keep saying this.... The only way Nigeria will stand and accomplish certain goals above ethnic lines is through restructuring.... We are that mature....

Every region should be set to be accountable to their citizens welfare... And citizens entitled to their rights.... For instance, if I am Yoruba, I am Yoruba staying in Ekiti... And not a Yoruba from Ekiti... Strike out that state of origin... Your state of origin should be replaced with country of origin.....

Governors should be made to generate their revenues.... And not giving everything to the federal government... and be waiting for FG to disburse fund through CBN to be shared amongst states and LGAs.... A working governor will strategize and develop and bring good taste to the state... State police will flourish and states will generate their power supply... Or pay little to buy from neighboring states... Or sign MoU to exchange power with crude and so on...

Else, we will be fighting each other in the same country...

I can only repeat what the great Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu said in 2001.

Nigeria was a country that started a journey on October 1st 1960 to see if it could become a nation

Today, it is no where near being a nation

You hit the nail on the head.

“Nigeria is not a nation, it is a mere geographical expression. There are no “Nigerians” in the same sense as there are “English” or “Welsh” or “French”.

APC did so much harm to nigeria that they shud be treated like the nazis after Second World War, the party shud be banned and the leaders prosecuted for high treason and hanged publicly

The country has never known division like it does today. APC thrived on division to win and remain in power. A good leader will never watch this country divide so deeply. That's why my preferred candidate is someone who is not hated by any tribe because a president not accepted by any section of the country will only result to deeper division

Example
Tinubu hates and is hated in SE. That's why he has never looked that way while campaigning. Imagine he wins, he will continue where buhari stopped
Peter Obi is hated in SW
Osibanjo is not hated specifically by any region
Same with Ameachi etc

But what do I know? Most Nigerians don't even want a unifier, let someone from their tribe just win.

If we can tell ourselves d truth, that's when we will get their.
Westerners helped d northerners in dividing this country through their Lagos-ibadan expressway newspaper.
2015 till date is still fresh in my memory, I hv d records of d election results and videos. Then 2019 came, they equally helped in dividing d country.
1. When Buhari used d word "%5" they all clapped for him.
2. They started d name calling "wailers"
3. Operation python dance is still fresh in memory of an average easterner.
4. D word "dot circle" etc.
U see, when u support evil bcs of what u stand to benefit, one day that evil would fight u back.
An average easterner wants an enabling environment to transact his or her business. But when u are creating d environment, that's when u will see him reacting.
Also, those seeking for separation. Separation will never be d solution, rather restructure should be in place

Nigerians were never really united. Tribalism and religious intolerance is a big problem in Nigeria. Then Buhari's government came and worsened it some more.

You are not a very smart individual. Everything APC claimed against the Jonathan regime was truth the only problem is that APC is unable to fix the problem the same problem n instead escalated it. I will give 2 example banditry was not thing menacing, herdsmen menace were not this pronounced too under PDP.

Problem such as Nigeria not living in peace will linger because a lot more people are now conscious of the hatred of a particular thread which they ignore prior to Buhari.

Hatred as not increased in Abuja btw Northerners n Yoruba in Abuja, Plateau Borno Ogun etc but it as increased in Imo Abia Ebonyi Enugu n Anambra.

So what is the genesis of this hate "igbo hate for not having their way". The Igbos in PDP think they must hurt insult n malign every Nigeria cos they lost a political battle but the entire Igbo race will pay a deadly price for their inaction towards the hatred being brewed but only time will tell.

Prior to Ebele lose Northerners n Yoruba have preconceived subconscious negative notion about the Igbos, this as been to brought to the fore now. 2 years ago I use to be the only fighting why Igbos hate Awolowo MKO etc now the likes of Tinubu Osibanjo Fashola Aregbe Lai Oshomole are included in the Igbo aasult in the Yoruba nation.

For the lunatics that will claim it goes both ways please state a single Igbo politician Yorubas on SM maligned like Igbos maligned Fashola who is the best governor Nigeria produced since 1999.

Now I don't comment so much on NL and Yorubas are fighting against this tide even the foolish lunatics PDP Yorubas work hard now to separate insulting Tinubu from insulting Lagosian n Yorubas but they are still foolish n will learn over time.

Nigeria was never one.

The political leaders were hiding the obvious divide because of their selfish gains.

However, Buhari, who is not even fit enough to be a class captain, deepened the division.

With the way things are going, the perceived unity can only get worse.

You are only telling yourself your one sided truth

Whatever you see Lagos-Ibadan express way newspapers are doing today was started by a teacher that taught them well, West African Pilot. If you need a copy of 1940 edition on an article dividing Nigerians,I will send it

If you are not bias, you will not only have the copy of results and videos of 2015 elections that south westerners foist Mr. Bad market on us,you should also have results and videos of 2011 elections that south westerners voted overwhelmingly for Jonathan in all their states except in Osun. Visit Google if you are yet to have it in your records. And also find out if Yoruba leaders did not visit Jonathan several times on the issue of his government marginalising SW
