Sir Churchill Makes Case For Judicial Autonomy, Welfare For Retired Judges by Jatuski: 7:50pm On Apr 22, 2022
A Kaduna based legal practitioner, Sir Ben Churchill Aniekwena has said that for the judiciary to be at its best, the proposed amendment of the NIgerian Constitution is a step in the right direction.

He expressed this on the sidelines of the special valedictory court session and the bowing out of service held in honor of the retiring Chief Judge of Kaduna State, Hon. Justice Muhammadu Lawal Bello, marked at the state's High Court premises on Thursday April 21, 2022.

"It's high time the judiciary became completely independent and the welfare of our Judges which is of great concern to we at the bar, is accorded priority.

"There remains some critical works to be done over the welfare of our Judges, particularly the retired ones.

"They are part of us as Lawyers and families before becoming Judges. This is more when we all have been so bond by the doctrine of Judicial Trinity," he said.

He described Justice Muhammadu Lawal Bello as a true definition of humility, fairness and equity, who out in his best all through his service to the state delivered loudable judgements and white paper reports and recommendations particularly of the last 2011 Post-Elections State Judicial Commission of Inquiry.

Sir Churchill wished him a happy retirement and success in all future endeavours.

It would be recalled that Justice Bello was born on April 24, 1957

He took over from the former Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice Taminu Zailani also retired.
