you can still get it in ezike.. Some ar sweet while some day giv beta slap if u test it. Make me remember dose days

That's if it's not fully ripe.

Afte licking the fruit, it will be as if they used that Welder filing machine to file your hand. Though, your fingers will be so clean due to the water thats gushing out from the fruit.

I recall how we would swallow enough of the seeds that you can even stay two days without eating and you will be okay.

grin grin grin grin

This is Ishin in Yoruba; I am surprised to here any part of it is poisonous. I grown-up with this fruit in my grandmother’s compound in Ogun State. I ate every part of it from 1969 to 1973 when I left the Neighbour-hood to my father’s Neighbour-hood. We ate the flesh raw and many times cooked it as soup. We burnt the seed in fire till the shell burn out and eat it. The seed taste like groundnut.

Kobojunkie:
Also found another fruit. Not sure what it is called in Nigeria though. The ackee is another member of the soapberry family, much like the longan and the lychee. It is a tricky fruit to eat, because if it is not eaten properly, the fruit can lead to vomiting, a coma or even death.

The only edible part of the fruit is the yellow flesh that surrounds the seeds. This part can also only be eaten when the fruit has turned red and split open. However, some who have tried the fruit do claim that it is worth the risk.

I never really got to taste the fruit myself even though I was around it when I was out in ilorin back in the day but some of the posters on here did somehow confirm that not all parts of it are to be eaten. lipsrsealed

Our stomachs probably can digest it if preprocessed grin

I have had to have a serious change of mind as far as what is and what isn't edible. undecided

You are very correct !
I have Mexican friends, and I go to many of their restaurants; I have seen many fruits, seed, and leaves that we acknowledge in Nigeria as not edible in their food. To be sincere, possibly there is no fruit or leaves that is not edible, it just depends on the process before eating to suit the taste.

That's been my experience as well. I have come to realize we don't really have what amounts to great cuisine in Nigeria at all because we are really very limited in what we eat and the way we process what we eat. undecided

This is called Ububu in Igbo.
The leaves of the ububu tree is a better alternative to the popular Oha leaves in the preparation of draw soup.
Right here in our home in Enugwu Ezike, we are having Ofe ububu for dinner tonight. I will endeavour to share pictures here when it's ready.

Must be the same thing Agbor people use for Ofe ujuju. The leaves when boiled and pounded have a somewhat slimy texture which can be used as a stand alone base or with ogbono for draw soup.
