The days of Late Dr Mrs Dora Akunyili (May her soul RIP) at the helm of affairs saw NAFDAC perform better than NDLEA of today.

There were many pioneer interventions of the agency then, illegal & unwholesome importation of drugs was seriously checked by the Agency, etc.
But these days, we only hear about the NDLEA.
The recent case of intercepted "₦22 Billion Worth Of Tramadol Imported By Ukatu", and several others just got me wondering... "Where is NAFDAC"?
Has NDLEA taken over their duties in this particular jurisdiction?

NAFDAC deal with the legal side of drug enforcement, while NDLEA deals with the illegal side.

It is not the jurisdiction of NAFDAC to crack down on drug pushers. That belongs to the NDLEA.

NAFDAC is statutorily in charge of food, drinks and drug.

It tests and certify any food, drinks and drugs both locally and imported fit for local consumption.

It is not the duty of NAFDAC to crack down on drug lords or abuse on the street. It can only crack down on pharmaceutical stores/companies that are selling/producing fake, banned or harmful drugs.

You need NAFDAC permission and registration to operate pharmaceutical business while NDLEA is to see if any company or individual is running narcotic business.
