The post about why people pour a part of their drinks on the ground before indulging made me remember that Africans are gradually losing their culture because of urbanization or Europeanization undecided

Every family or clan has a totem and Oriki/ pedigree which is a string of praises/Ballad associated with them particularly

In my family as a true born Aboriginal Ekiti, Out totem is Ekun (Leopard)

My grandfather a chief among his tribe had it painted on the fence in front of his compound.

Our Oriki/pedigree begins with these lines

'Omo Owa, Omo Ekun'
Omo Apoyimokoko....

These phrases explains our origin

Omo owa means, the child of Owa (Owa is another title for a king as seen in Ilesha, Idanre etc)

Omo Ekun means child of the Leopard
(The first king of Akure, another Ekiti town is a man named Ekun)

Omo Apoyimokoko means the child of women that makes pots

So you can see that in African culture, we do not have written records but we have our own way of keeping history. It's through oral renditions.

From the excerpt from my tribe's Oriki you can tell that my forefathers were nobles and Kings while their wives made clay pots and I am related to Ilesha and Akure....

These Oriki/pedigrees are recited during ceremonies in the village especially by wives that are married into the family and they will follow u around blowing u air with a rather big hand fan. You have to spray them money.

In igbo land, Agu is Leopard..
The original ISI-AGU ATTIRE of the igbo is Leopard's Head and not the tiger or lion's head..

The leopard was also the animal totem of the Zulu.
That proud people of South Africa remain proud of it.

Our culture is our pride.
We were surprised to see the thread the other day also.
Our culture as a nation needs to be uphold for the next generations.
Enough of the foolish 'wokeness' that some are enforcing on us.

Oh really?

I know that Igbo language and Yoruba are in the same group and family, they are related.

Now this occurrence of leopard in both cultures can not be overlooked

The Yorubas and igbos are relatives if you ask me

By the way, what's your families totem?
Apart from the general igbos

When we say all of us @,
You should know we are more than one!
If we want to start, Then we will be mentioning multiples of totems.
Therefore, let us leave it at that.
That totem

None of it is necessary! undecided

You can choose to have none of it if you want. I saw, ad a child, people who lived right there in the villages above the influence of culture and I liked that they were not bothered or moved by all the noise around them. undecided

It's only a part of your history if you need it to be otherwise you can exist without all that unnecessary burden on you. undecided

As for your pedigree, the only one who cares about such things is really you and others who think as you do. Most people don't really give a flying fk about such things. They only ask either it is polite to or they are looking to make conversation. . undecided
