Onitsha — Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has called on men and organisations to assist in rebuilding Haiti.

He made the appeal at the weekend in Haiti when he led some Nigerian delegation, comprising groups such as the Red Cross, the private sector, the entertainment industry to access the level of damage by the earthquake to the country.

Obi said this when he visited Madonna Catholic Hospital, Umuahia, where he donated N1.5 million to support the facility.

He said he had been to Afghanistan, Rwanda, and Haiti doing refugee work as his contribution to alleviating the plight of citizens of the war-torn African countries.

Peter Obi takes school project to Rwanda, Kenya

A former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, notable for his unrelenting support to the education sector, has extended same to Kenya and Rwanda.

He was in Rwanda and Kenya on the invitation of the world-acclaimed non-governmental organisation on education called “Build Africa.” Based in the United Kingdom (UK), the organisation is in the forefront of supporting education in many countries.



While in Kenya, the chief executive of the organisation, Lynda Edwards, who said the urge to work with Obi was based on his consistent support to education, visited many schools with him.

In one of the three counties, Kwale, where Build Africa is erecting structures, providing learning infrastructure or facilitating exchanges among schools, they visited three of them.
At Kanana Genesis Primary school in Msambweni, Obi was pleased with the two modern classrooms and places of convenience which Build Africa erected and urged their presence in Nigeria for similar support to the poorest part of the country.

The head teacher of the school, Karilo Amba, thanked Obi and the team from Build Africa for the visit and solicited more support, especially in the area of improving girls’ education.



Build Africa Programme Officer in Kenya, Mr. Raphael Sungu, said that the organisation was working in 72 schools in the country, chosen from three counties, namely Kwale, Migori and Marsabit. He said that besides building of structures and improvement on infrastructure, they also carried out special advocacy for improved girls’ education as well as the rehabilitation of victims of child marriages through getting them back to school.

Peter Obi cannot win the PDP primary, he doesn't even have control of the party structure in Anambra state because that is under the firm control of Chris Uba who is an ally of Nyesom Wike. And even if Atiku or another northerner wins it, he will certainly choose another person to be his VP since Obi has crossed 60 years of age and has no real support or financial warchest. Much younger southern governors like Udom and Okowa will be contenders rather.
