University of Ibadan (UI) has been ranked 1172nd in the world and the number one tertiary institution in Nigeria, with an overall score of 69.3 points, by the Centre for World University Ranking in its 2022 report.

UI was followed closely by University of Nigeria (UNN), which was placed 1775 worldwide and second in the nation with 66.6 points.

Ranking 1924 in the world and third in the country is University of Lagos with 66.0 points, while Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria ranked 1941, placing it as the fourth best institution in the nation.

Harvard University with a whopping 100 points, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (96.7points) and Stanford University (95.1) retained the number one, two and three spots in the world university rankings for the fourth time in a row.

The ranking comes as Nigerian public universities dally in endless shutdown occasioned by longstanding industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

ASUU embarked on its latest strike accusing the Muhammadu Buhari administration of having a lacklustre attitude to education over its failure to implement the 2020FGN/ASUU Memorandum of Action.

We still have a long way to go in Nigeria, our educational sector has been bastardised, the so-called best we brag about aren't good enough

The best in one place can be the worst in another place.

The worst is yet to hit Nigeria. I say this because Nigerian public establishments are neither improving nor stagnant. Things are going backward in Nigeria. Even this UI is continuously falling in its standard within Nigeria. This is why private schools that were behind Nigerian federal universities in the past compete with the federal universities today. It is the same in secondary schools and primary schools.

If ASUU perish we all perish. With what UI lecturers are earning coupled with how they're treated both by the government, students and parents, I think 1172 is even a thing to pride in. Nigerian students including their parents don't know the consequences of what the FG is doing. UK have technically removed us from their new visa proposal. Very soon our university degrees will become too useless that those who want to hustle with their BSc and MSc will not be offered academic admission abroad. Our PhDs will not get places to do their Postdoc, then our nurses and Drs will not be permitted to work abroad without any form of retraining or even subjecting them to another medical or health based degrees, then most of us will wake up to acknowledge the glorious battle and future ASUU wants to win for all of us. Most of us can't afford private university but we're the first to tackle ASUU when they go on strike. Even the minister suggested that ASUU should leave teaching and start farming. The experiment of forgoing teaching or rather combining teaching and farming was done in our public and private primary/secondary schools, we all know the results. A good private secondary/primary school is quite expensive coupled with the economic implications of the Nigerian state. ASUU remains our only hope of not losing it all because when we do, the political office holders will always patronize these private universities and possibly send their children abroad to study. So Nigerians be wise and support your teachers. How your teachers feel and look reflects the feeling and looks of your nation

Teachers are great, no controversy
