ASUU Strike Continues As Union Confirms Extension Of Strike By 3 Months by Tariqoboh: 10:51am On May 09, 2022
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has refused to end its warning strike and has extended it by 3 months without any delay.

This was confirmed by the President of the Union, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, and monitored by Digital Information.

The decision was made by the striking lecturers at an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting convened at the ASUU Secretariat in Abuja.

The emergency meeting began on Sunday and finished early Monday morning, with major officials and branch chairmen in attendance.

On February 14, members of the union began a one-month strike in protest of the Nigerian government's inability to honor different agreements signed with them.

ASUU's demands include the release of university revitalization money, renegotiation of the 2009 Nigerian government and ASUU agreement, the release of earned allowances for university lecturers, and the implementation of the UTAS payment platform for the payment of university lecturers' wages and allowances.

The union went ahead and declared an additional eight weeks of industrial action after the initial four-week warning strike ended, claiming that it was giving the government enough time to address its demands.
