Despite the fact the age of consent globally keeps dropping and even countries among the G7 like Japan for example, having an age of consent as low as 13 (Nigeria is the lowest worldwide at 11), I still maintain that children should remain children. Whatever fast development, exposure and etc will not influence the aftermath of being exposed to sex early. This usually results in hypersexuality, unwanted pregnancy and etc. which in the long run, won’t do any child any good.

This is why I always argue about the negatives of early exposure to the use of internet enabled devices, social media and tv unsupervised and not regulated.

The 10 years old girl and her peers in the trending Chrisland video is one of many and this is only a hot topic because it came into light. I know how many sexual abuse related cases I’ve had to handle as a teacher and as a rights activist. A story broke out recently of junior secondary school girls who were stopping by at short time hotels after school. This crazy world of uncontrolled sexual orgies is dragging kids along. Too many sexually related content from comedy skits to TikTok videos and instagram and while gadgets may be purchased for these kids by their parents/caregiver for studying, online classes and etc (since COVID), they tend to use it for other means as most of them are barely supervised.

This exposes them to content they are most likely unprepared for and would worsen their puberty struggle, heightening the urge to want to engage and practice, hence, taken advantage of. The boys in that video knew well to use the trick of truth or dare and the girl was foolish to fall for it. Now, this patriarchal society is subjecting only the girl to the receiving end of the sticks.

Only the girl’s mother has had to make a video to address same. We don’t know who raised those boys. Only the girl is trending, very few persons are talking about the boy. Only the girl’s indefinite suspension letter was made public. Only the girl is being condemned. Only her is being recommended for counseling and rehabilitation. Only her life is ruined. Not the boys who are equally around her age and too young to be engaged in such. Not one of them.

I tell girls that the societal expectations is usually at their expense and while we may push for gender equality and parity, the crowd would always box them into a corner. From all trending abuse cases, only a few victims’ name gets to be mentioned. Many times, it is what the girl was doing, wearing, saying, acting etc that got her there.

Again, parenting is not bean cake especially in this generation with the advent of social media and the likes. It is unthinkable what is contained all over the net. One can raise their child right and still have them corrupted by an improperly raised one as friend, neighbor, colleague or classmate.

I’d had my freedom since a very young age. It was alien to me when friends were scared to stay out beyond a particular time. I could travel, spend nights and weeks out and do all sort since as young as 15, however, I was consumed with video gaming rather than sexual fantasies and urges like it is now. One can’t go past a sentence even as a teen without talking about ass or breast and you can’t even scold them because these conversations can happen in front of their parents who’d say ’Mr. Daniel, children of nowadays ehn’ and leave it at that.

In the end, not very far away, adults will begin to bear the repercussions of their irresponsibilities and lackadaisical attitude towards properly raising their children. The ones with crime and criminal involvement via cultism will be frequenting police holdings and correctional facilities. The ones with unwanted pregnancies will be nursing fatherless/motherless grandkids. It’s a catastrophic disaster and I’m on the side observing.

Surprisingly, this same topic was talked about in my church 2 days ago(Sunday).

We understand that the world is evolving and developing faster in technology but the underlying question is the effect of this change on the younger generation.

One major issue of concern is the guidance of this young ones.
Its so sad to say that Parents of this days have failed in their roles of educating the new generation in these areas.

WHAT YOU FAIL TO TEACH YOUR CHILD AT HOME IN A GOOD WAY,
HE/SHE WILL SURELY LEARN IT FROM OUTSIDE IN A BAD WAY.

OP, this correlates to both genders but the female are at the receiving end of the aftermath.

A young male child at age 11 using an android phone then goes online and sees those sex related sites/pictures displayed by chrome.
After watching & consuming those contents,
What other thoughts will he have towards the opposite gender?

I could go on and on as this is a vital issue of concern but i will end here.

Parents should wake up.

The girls are more like to be offered and are thus expected to learn how to reject.
