So I was arguing with a friend who stays in the states and he keeps saying I am a rich guy.

Current salary is about 512k per month (take home), and has an annual increment of 15% of your take home. This is aside perks of perdiem anytime I travel outside work base (15k per night).

Anytime he wants me to have minor something done in NG on his bahalf, he expects me to use my money and whenever I ask, he tells me not to complain that I am rich (he knows what I earn), I don't have a problem doing those things for him.

I don't see myself rich and pls guys, what can someone earn in Nigeria to be termed rich. Your opinions will count alot as I still find it hard getting the usual daily stuffs we all use.
I am not married and do not have responsibilities. My mom is a retired govt worker and other siblings are all working.

God wey do your own, go do my own too (Amen)

I like that part.... I am not married and do not have responsibilities. My mom is a retired govt worker and other siblings are all working.

Many of us would have been comfortable, if not for the responsibilities we have to clear

Start earning it and you will know.

As your income increases, your taste increases. Those that know, know.

Then no amount of money is enough, satisfaction is key even if you earn 7m weekly you will still not be satisfied

I suppose you have no responsibilities?

You will live an average life, yes. But, you can not be called rich.

No mind am, I don't know who told them 500k is rich. The US guy is probably hailing him, so he won't be asking him for money.

500k is comfortable in Nigeria, but not rich. Upper middle class should start from 800k as far as I am concerned, and Upper middle class isn't even rich yet, just comfortable.

Speak for those that have zero in economics sha not me. With that pay I will enjoy my life here in Nigeria and never look for more. I will still save 250k per month at the end minimum. I live a minimal lifestyle, no smoking, drinking, clubbing, womanising nor friends and don't fancy social attention.

Oga Oga Oga! How many times did i call you? The Devil is somehow notified each day you receive credit alert. Before you know ehnnn....some mysterious small small problems of 10K, 20K, 30K or 50K and even more will terrorize from the pit of hell. More money more problems....Biggie Smalls was right.

We can say u earn an amount that is enough to make you comfortable. You can easily afford a good rent, u can build or buy a standard house without much stress. You can meet your responsibilities and obligations to dependants.
But to say 500k a month will make u a rich man? I am not sure about that. That's 6m a year. Add all your Perdiem, let's say 7m. By the time u pay rent 2m a year, pay other bills and feeding, car fuelling all say 150k/month that's 1.8m a year....money dun nearly finish..we have not talked of unforseen expenses. It's not out of place that u want to get something for ur parents, assist your siblings, or even buy them gifts if they don't need help. That money makes u live a good and decent life. But we won't say rich. By the time u start sending 2 kids to good schools that match ur status, u go see say u need a lot of side hustle with that money

Rich is relative. Davido cannot claim to be rich where Elon Musk is. To another person and under different circumstances, 500k can be considered rich

Lol, do u know how much it costs to do foundation? Unless you're building a bungalow, on an average soil, 4m can't do a good foundation.
You're earning 6m, will u not rent a good apartment? I'm assuming the company paying such will be on the island, won't u live close to work? Or you'll spend your life in traffic?
A selfcon on the island is 800k upwards. Buying a car? 2008 Corolla is about 3m. How much remain for the 6m?

500k a month is supposed to be average income for a middle class person in Nigeria not rich.

You are a middle class citizen especially if you are still single.

If you are single, the income that qualifies you as rich in Nigeria is 2.5million and above monthly take home.

If you are married, it means 3.5million and above monthly take home, anytime less means you are a middle class not rich.

But to be realistic, you are not earning badly based on Nigerian situation, but don't let that bobo you, you still have a long way to go cos I have an elder bro who works for a big multinational and he earns around 1.5m monthly take home and believe me, he is not close to others running their own companies and earning heavily, so he still sees himself as struggling.

How did you arrive at this assertion?

For a starter, what are the definitions of Poor, Comfortable, Rich and Wealthy?

Well, 500k monthly is not bad if you can plan for it very well

Also, someone who earns 500k monthly cannot be considered as rich but not poor either because it's something of mind

Some people earn 100k monthly & considered themselves rich

Contentment, goal, & lifestyle determines how we rate ourselves

As long as you can afford things you need in life but not necessarily your want (because sometimes our want is not what we truly need) then you should consider yourself rich.

If you don't waste money unnecessarily & your place of work is not far from house, 100k - 150k can feed you monthly to your satisfaction

Any man earning 500k in a low cost location like the North is a very wealthy man please!

We in the South are our own worst enemies.

No wonder there is so much crime here.
