NNPP Offers Obi Vice Presidential Ticket - The Nation by Nemere2020: 12:14am On May 27, 2022
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) is offering former Anambra State governor Peter Obi the ticket of running mate to the National Leader of the party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, The Nation has learnt.

The party is discussing with several lawmakers and aspirants from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), who feel unhappy with the processes of their primaries.

A source within the party told The Nation that while the party was willing to give him the position of vice president, his followers are insisting on the presidential ticket, with Kwankwaso serving as his running mate.

The source, however, said the zoning of the presidential ticket of the APC and the PDP would determine the final decision of the NNPP.

The source said Obi, Kwankwaso and some of the party leaders had met to discuss the issue ahead of the party’s presidential primary slated for June 2 in Abuja.

Asked whether the former PDP presidential aspirant was heading for the NNPP, the source said: “I heard authoritatively that he wants to join NNPP, but whether he will accept to be the vice presidential candidate, which they are prepared to offer him, is not confirmed.

“Dr. Doyin Okupe and some of his followers are hell bent that he must be the presidential candidate, while Kwankwaso serves as the vice-presidential candidate. Wherever the APC and the PDP zone their presidential slots to will be the final determining factor.”

The National Chairman of the party, Prof. Rufai Ahmed Alkali, was not forthcoming on whether Obi was heading for the NNPP or what they were offering him. He simply said in a text message: “That will be a great news.”

However, he told The Nation that the party had been talking to several aggrieved politicians from the other parties, with a view to having them cross over to the NNPP, but he ruled out automatic ticket for anybody.

He said those to be offered the party’s ticket must be ready to play by the rules of the party, adding that offering automatic ticket to anybody would go against the guidelines put in place by the party for its primaries.

Alkali said: “The truth is that, if you talk of automatic ticket for anybody, that will amount to subverting our guidelines for the primaries, our own constitution and even the Nigerian constitution.

“Election is supposed to be open to everybody, both old members of the party and new comers. But whoever comes in, as long as the sale of form has not been closed, he is at liberty to purchase the expression of interest and nomination forms. He will not be excluded, but may require a waiver from the party.

“The rule is that whenever you join a political party, even though you are accepted as a member of the party, you will require a waiver to show that the party has finally accepted you as a member to stand for election.

“But the issue of automatic ticket does not arise because other members of the party are going to fight him. There are people who will fee aggrieved that you are giving automatic ticket to some people. He should subject himself to primaries and if he is popular, he will emerge.”

While confirming that discussions are ongoing to attract other big politicians to the party, he said: “We are talking to those who have not been treated fairly in other parties. We look for them and reach out to them because this is a Nigerian project.

“We are talking about the future of our country. So, anybody who comes and embraces our core mission and values is welcome because we are going to do things differently from how they have been done in other parties.

“But the person must understand that when you come, you must also be guided by our own rules, our constitution and our code of conduct because that is the only way we can ensure that we are different from others. So, we have been reaching out.”

But the truth is that it'd be more easier for Obi to win US presidential election than win Nigeria presidential election..
Nigeria is not meant for people like obi, he deserves better!

If Obi is interested in VP he would have gotten it easier on PDP platform. So he's not interested in your vice presidency...

Meanwhile, PDP will perpetually remain in opposition until they go into extinction..

Ofcourse after general election they will start throwing stones and be blaming each other for their failure because it's inevitable

You never can tell.

Short term gain: Kwakwanso as Vice President for 8 years will thrust him right at the center for a long time and give him visibility.

Long term gain: His brand and profile will increase astronomically nationwide such that he will automatically become the unquestioned number one candidate when the presidency swings north.

As for now he cant win by himself. His popularity no pass north and that will not be enough.

Therefore in my opinion both long term and short term the vice presidency thing favours him.

Modified.

Rabiu Kwankwaso confirmed that he met with the British High Commissioner today. Peter Obi met with the British Prime Minister in London last Friday and resigned from PDP after the meeting. I think these two meetings are connected .

A New Nigeria is what we need. We want a country that works and we can be proud of.

With Obi as presidential candidate and Kwakwanso as running mate, no political strategy can be better than that.

Both APC and PDP should forget NW and SE if that permutation should work out.

The Igbos will massively vote for Obi anywhere they are while Kwakwanso will receive block votes from Hausas and Fulanis

That's the best strategy. Kwakwanso is loved by the common man in the north and with Peter Obi , Nigeria will be great again. But stomach infrastructure people won't like it , because their focus is on the present meal ticket and not the future gains.

Do u know the real reason why obi Left
This is simple
Atiku knows he will have the ticket he didn't bother to tour round Nigeria to wooo delegates he will simply bribe on their convention on Saturday.

Obi has tour Nigeria has he has seen has stressful it his and he knows atiku will Emerge and will definitely pick him as running mate so he taught again of touring round the country again and the stress involved and pdp might not even win general Baba had to japa grin

Nnpp save d stress Peter obi can only accept on the main ticket rather vp slot

Obi doesn't need that VP position. He should try Labour Party, let's see what those ones have to offer. It's presidency or nothing.

In summary, NNPP will be like a party of aggrieved politicians from PDP and APC and the outcome will be like what we are experiencing in this APC regime.

Nigerians please choose wisely.

Like the APC, all the aggrieved politicians who are teaming up in NNPP are the reasons Nigerians are still suffering till today. No credible candidate, just angry folks who want to clinch power at all cost.

NNPP, a party of political prostitutes, expect Atiku and Saraki soonest, that's what they know how to do best.
