Tesla Inc. Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said the electric carmaker needed to eliminate personnel with a bleak economic outlook, sending US index futures down.

Investors are also looking forward to vital US payroll data, which they will examine for signs of the Federal Reserve’s policy tightening pace.

Tesla shares fell 3.8 percent in premarket trade in New York. Contracts on the Nasdaq 100, which includes Musk’s business as one of its largest index constituents, were down 0.6 percent.
Futures on the S&P 500 fell 0.4 percent. The Stoxx 600 index in Europe crept higher, despite lower trade volumes due to UK holidays commemorating the Queen’s Jubilee.

After overnight losses, a Bloomberg dollar index stabilized, while the yen maintained at the psychologically key 130 level against the greenback. Treasury rates were stable at approximately 2.91 percent.
