Ekwueme contested the PDP ticket with Atiku twice - 1999 and 2003. And he was overwhelmingly defeated on both occasions.

Ekwueme never stepped down for anybody.

Ogbonnaya Onu stood no chance on the APP platform. He willingly surrendered it to Falae the candidate of the AD to created a merger between APP and AD.
