Abuja - Another group of militants from Nigeria's oil rich Niger Delta region on Tuesday threatened to confront members of Boko Haram, an Islamist sect responsible for the recent spate of bombings across the north-east of the country.

The group, calling itself the Niger Delta Indigenous Movement, has warned against further attacks by the sect, saying it was prepared to take the current "terrorist battle" to their door step - a move observers fear may spark civil strife in Africa's most populous nation.

The group called on northern political and religious leaders to choose between the continued existence of Nigeria as one country or opt for the "extremist Islamic militant group" Boko Haram.

"We have been watching with total dismay the activities of Boko Haram in some parts of the country and we hereby warn that enough is enough," Nelly Emma, Secretary General of the group said.

"Boko Haram must give peace a chance, stop disturbing one of our own, President Jonathan, as we are not going to take it easy with anybody or group of persons trying to make the country ungovernable for the president," she continued.

Jonathan, a native of the Niger Delta region, has vowed to tackle insecurity in the country while emphasising dialogue as a means of dealing with Boko Haram.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the sect, Ali Teshako, said they were prepared for the militants and accused them of being sponsored by the government.

Ali, whose parents are Christians, said Boko Haram's grievances against the government were just, adding that no particular religion was being targeted.

Boko Haram, which first gained notoriety in 2008, is protesting against what it says is the Westernization of northern Nigeria, where the country's Muslim population is concentrated.

The introduction of sharia law in the 19 northern states is among the conditions it has named for a peace deal.

A similar peace deal extended to militants in the Niger Delta region in 2009 brought an initial end to many years of conflict over non-development of the area by oil companies.

These lazy louts are throwing their toys out of the pram again.
They must feel bad that Boko Haram is stealing their thunder. . .
Boko only wants 65k monthly salary too.
Since Odechuckwu has decided he wants to reward unruly behaviour, Boko Haram have now gotten his attention.
Its very sad Nigerians have allowed their ethnic and religious sentiments make them choose a dimwit to lead the country.
Well, enjoy your fresh poo.

Wow. This is interesting. Do you know why BH are gaining ground and proving a difficult nut to crack, ? Its because they do not operate in the open like niger delta militants did. No phyiscal location as headquaters, no formal way of communication which could be back-traced to them. Unlike the militants which had physical presence, locations that could be reached, means of communication that are traceable.
No wonder the nation's security forces are finding it difficult to 'contain' them

So in the end i hope the American prediction of a failed State doesnt materialize. This one several terrorist groups keep springing up everyday.

Meanwhile, where are those useless and stupid senators that were advocating amnesty. I hope they are ready to grant amnesty to as many groups that spring up. Nonsense! Mtscheeeeew !
Re: Nigerian Militants Challenge Boko Haram ! For Real by BigMeat2: 12:07pm On Jul 20, 2011
There is definetely no monopoly of being a terrorist in the country.

As usual, everything is about competition and zoning in Nigeria.

Maybe it will be the turn of OPC or MASSOB to throw their hats into the ring.
Re: Nigerian Militants Challenge Boko Haram ! For Real by kimbaby: 12:12pm On Jul 20, 2011
it's a pity that people can compare the agitations of MEND and that of BOKO HARAM

pls visit the Niger Delta and be amazed at the level of poverty, lack of good water as a result of oil spillage, lack of clean fresh air as a result of polution

the level of sickness and diseases that research cannot explain?

Now that was MEND's anger,  Nigeria is blessed, rich and popular as a result of the oil that God has blessed those people with, is it too much that militants are paid 65k from their own natural resources?

or that we develop their environment as a result of our encroachment on their land?

now what is the agitation of Boko Haram? that they do not support western culture but they use phones to communicate, they drive cars.

let them present genuine greivances and the Govt will solve their problem, when MEND started the Govt knew what to do to pacify them and people were calling on the Govt to solve their problems but in the case of Boko Haram what do they want?

we all want peace and stability, that's a all, one nigeria where i am not scared that a bomb will explode on my way to work. we are supposed to be brothers, americans are americans. so we should be one.
