‘Why Osimhen Can Break Yekini’s Goal Record’ —Ex-Super Eagles Star, Pascal

Former Nigeria international and current Super Eagles team coordinator, Patrick Pascal, believes Victor Osimhen has what it takes to break the goal scoring record of the late Rashidi Yekini.

Osimhen took his tally for the Eagles to 15 following his four goals in the Eagles’ 10-0 win against São Tomé and Principe in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.


Currently legendary striker Yekini, who passed away in 2012, holds the record with 37 goals.


But Pascal posited that with the way things are panning our, Osimhen will surely broke Yekini’s record.

“If he continue definitely he will be the greatest goal scorer in Nigeria because when you check the age of Osimhen, his goals, I think he has about 15 goals and Yekini has 37,” Pascal said on Brila FM.

“With the way we are going and with the way Osimhen is scoring goals he is going to set another record. That would be a very good thing because it is good to set a record and another good thing for someone to break it.“

The All time Record for the highest numbers of goals scored by super eagles player currently stands at 37 goals, this record is been he!d by he legendary Rashidi Yekini. And has lasted for decades.

In the past players like Yakubu Aiyegbani, Julius Aghahowa and even Obafemi Martins were touted to break the record yet they ended their careers and the record stands

But currently Victor Osimhen seems to be the next on the line with just 23 games he has already netted 15 goals already.

In doing so he has already equal Rashidis Yekinis record of scoring 4 goals in a single game it will be recall that in 1991 against Burkina Faso Nigeria won 7 - 1. With Yekini scoring 4 times thanks to Finidi George providing some of the crosses.

Victor Osimhen has already surpassed Julius Agbahowa, the legendary JJ Okocha, Daniel Amokachi on the all time table.

And yesterday Victor Osimhen the Napoli man was able to match that record 4 goals in a single game and Finidi George this time was on the bench as assistant coach.


So the question now is can Victor Osimhen go on to equal or surpass the record set by Rashidi Yekini?
