But Obi was Atiku’s running mate in 2019. What has changed?

Reality sets in.

Instresting,I love your point.Lagos state fundamental basis of it's economic prosperity is the presence of the seaport .It's is the most commercialized seaport in Nigeria even in west Africa. The business you see in Lagos today are mostly import dependent.Computer village,Alaba international market,Ladipo market and a host of others command huge sales volumes which large financials able to generate tax to the state government.

Anambra doesn't have a seaport at all.Rather depend also what is cleared from the Lagos port.So comparing both cities is like comparing a student who had first position in common entrance exam and the one who came first overall in WAEC.They are both brilliant students but in different capacity.

The population distribution of both states aren't the same. You know that in economics a huge population is a good indices of a large market.

I am happy you gave a good start that it's the 5 the largest economy in Africa. The mates of Lagos is Cairo ( Egypt) and Cape town(South Africa) etc .Those are the players in the same league with Lagos.

No doubt Tinubu is a great and astute leader except I am just telling lies. His penchant for education is second to none and his emphasis on competence is alluring.Lagos produced Ben akabueze as commissioner of finance.Tinubu no send you as long as you can deliver. This is my fear:

He will create conduit pipes in the economy to encourage steady cash flow to himself even after governing.Eg Lekki toll gate lest be truthful.Tinubu is the major beneficiary of it.

All Iya oloja remits monies to him through this daughter.

Mc Oluomo ,the commandeer of transportation in Lagos has remitted monies in billions to Tinubu. Those Agbero that extort monies from commuters you know whose pocket it ends in Las las.Lagosians are feeling it wen it comes to transportation.

Mandella is the most celebrated African leader due to his selfless fight for the end of apartheid in South Africa. He doesn't have these "structures" in south Africa economy attracting those kind of economic inflow.

I repeat, Peter Obi isn't a saint at all.He hasn't given delegates largesse to vote him.The coming election he won't be engaged in vite buying but our darling Tinubu and Atiku will .So much pressure will be on Obi to perform than Tinubu and Atiku will wull look for ways to recoup their investments during electioneering period.

9gerian:
If I am
to use your chosen yardstick of comparing Tinubu’s Lagos with Obi’s Anambra, Tinubu wins that argument hands down.

[[[s]b]b]Why? Tinubu did not only create and fund more local governments in Lagos, but did so while the Lagos allocation was withheld by the FG for years. As far as Nigeria is concerned, this is novel, and a huge reference point for the type of leadership needed by a struggling economy like Nigeria.[

Tinubu’s succession plan has also ensured that Lagos today is the 5th largest economy in Africa.

Maybe Tinubu’s health issues is enough reason to overlook his competence but that’s about it for the negatives to be considered imho.

Are you aware that the biggest chunk of taxes come from companies, most especially income tax (PAYE), direct sales taxes from their well kept books, and of course property taxes? Those sales in the markets that you refer to are quite helpful (stimulating the economy) but not as major as those of the major companies who are well regulated to keep their books properly. Low hanging fruits for the state.

Unfortunately, VAT goes to the federal even though it is being contested by some states.

Some of the Highest employers who have large chunks of their staff including highly paid executives living and working in Lagos include:
Julius Berger has 11,238 employees.
CCECC Nigeria limited has 9,607 employees.
Zenith Bank Plc with 9,019,
Halogen Security Co. Ltd 7,371
Microfinance banks with 7,320.
United Bank for Africa 7,306 employees.
Dangote Cement 6,167 employees.
C & I Leasing Plc (5,551).
Access Bank Plc (5,532)
Prudential Guards Ltd (5,235)
Philips Outsourcing Services Nig Ltd. (4,934) Strategic Outsourcing Ltd (4,632)
Reynolds Construction Co. Ltd. (3,764)
Guaranty Trust Bank Plc. (3,316)
Setraco (Nigeria) Ltd. (3,031)
Etc etc

Remember that Tinubu is an accountant, auditor and tax expert who helped to set up a joint venture between National Oil and Saudi Aramco: https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/201165-i-made-first-millions-tinubu.html

That guy was privileged to have learnt some very deep things. Therefore his exploits in Lagos may not be flukes. Nigeria is lucky that such an experienced individual ventured and succeeded in its politics. He is an asset tbh.

To your fear for the propensity for stealing and profligacy. This is a general problem with most brainy lads. They want returns for their brain work, which can be an issue but one that an astute businessman would hardly worry about. This is because if you do not generate enough revenue but only save the little that you made from regular sources, it may not be enough to solve the socioeconomic problems that are pervasive in the land. But if the supposedly thieving leader is creative enough to generate wealth in abundance for the state, whatever commission that he takes (or steals if viewed that way) may become insignificant so far the economy continues on the right path of growth.

Not saying this is the best direction ever, but what is the alternative if an astute solution provider of the cash-cow wants a commission? After all, 10% of zero is still zero.

The main point I am trying to make is that Nigeria’s democracy is moving forward with the caliber of candidates that have emerged.

Either win would see:
Tinubu expand the economy or
Atiku unite the country or
Obi revolutionize the entire system.

Therein lies the improvement that I see.

I love this conversation. You have some valid points there.Permit me to make this little submission. The corporate organizations you mentioned needs these import based firms to thrive infact they constitute substancially tye basis of their existence.Example Slot Nigeria importa it's telephone gadget through the port except for some cases they use Air cargo.Do you think the banker of Slot will play with Slot? The insurance company won't do the same.

My point is the Port in Lagos plays huge and massive role in the economic viability of Lagos state.Financial institutions don't do business by themselves. They rely on businesses to do their business. You and I know that even the gladiators in the manufacturing sector don't have all their raw materials from here they still depend on importing them through the sea port.Example the Breweries,Peakmilk, etc

Concerning Jagaban,I am in no doubt about his astuteness. He is very strategic.I am an accountant I should even be the one more happier than you that he would assume office.Let me out this straight to you.He will recruit the finest and brainny Nigerians in his cabinet. The challenge remains that he will remodel Nigeria using the Lagos approach. This implies after his tenure of 8 years structures must have been laides strategically to ensure that he decides on behalf on Nigerians who would he the next president and by so the very essence or purpose of democracy is defeated.Dont say NO ooo! He has done it in Lagos and is still in the business of annoiting successor same way we lend credence to his superb performance as a governor of Lagos state.

No matter the divide. We shouldn't cast aspersions on ourselves. They are all politicians including OBi.Their houses aren't far from each other's.I can't because of a politician become someone's enemy.

My happiness is that the least of them is far far better than BUHARI.The mess Buhari has put the country into it will take the next president at least four years to undo them and another fours years to take developmental strides.

Long live Nigeria.

May Nigeria not become too hot for Japa to become the utmost necessary option.
