The Exhibition At Tinubu Square by Nobody: 2:49pm On Jul 06, 2022
I am sure most would be wondering what the display of photography at Tinubu Square is all about and where it came from, or what organisation is responsible for the exhibition. Recall that there was an exhibition at same venue as at this time last year by same Team.
This year's the Theme is
"THE RESPECTFUL GAZE"
The late German photographer Nina Fischer-Stephan paid a visit to Nigeria in the early 1960s, shortly after Independence. She documented her trip in a gem of photographs which are now showing in a site exhibition at Tinubu Square on Lagos Island, the first time they’ve ever seen in public. It’s a terrific show. Fischer-Stephan’s images of street life and architecture in and around the Square nearly sixty years ago are illuminating. She also travelled to the north. These are some of the images she captured in Sokoto in 1962.

These passers-by, market workers and petty traders, people you would never find visiting a gallery, were passionately engaged with it yesterday even as the show was being installed.

Continue following and I keep it coming ✨

The pink house is the house of one of the richest men in Lagos called Candido Joao Da Rocha ( 1860 – March 11, 1959) the house was called Water House. The home was commemorated in literature by a novel, The Water House, written by Antonio Olinto. The house had a borehole and the first water fountain in Lagos Island; water was sold from his house to consumers.

We have very beautiful photos from the north: Kano, Katsina, Sokoto…

What do you think of first this beautiful architecture piece from sokoto? And what does it say of our history in building as a people? And above all what are your comments on the quality of picture and the capture?
The Government won't capture our history or preserve it, this is a work of a foreigner out of love and passion and it also preserve and showcase by another team of Germans though supported by few of our own the least we can do is appreciate and endeavour to do what ever we can to tell and capture today for generation to come. Today is tomorrow's history.

On the left is Freedom Park, when it was not yet a venue for culture. The building with the abstract patterns is the Western House. Babs Williams, the lawyer of all the first generation filmmakers had his office here. Bode once said it was the first skyscraper.

Western House is considered an architectural specimen because of its floating foundation that was quite advanced for its time.
