OF ENUGU PRIMARY ELECTION LOSERS AND THE COST HEALING

By Ugwuagbo Emmanuel Chizoba

2022 Primary Election Results in Enugu State is arguably the most shocking one in the State since the return to democracy in 1999.

This is not necessarily because anything different happened during the Primaries that didn't happen in previous election years, it was rather because some groups of people have given false hopes to different political newbies that they have the capacity to hijack the system and overturn it for their own benefits.

These groups of people who obviously overestimated their capacities began in 2020 to indoctrinate and incite unsuspecting political newbies in the state, first to attack the State Governor in various vicious ways using any means possible.

They sold to their new mob, the dumb idea that the Governor of the State is too weak and would be armtwisted into doing their bidding. Hence they birthed the slogan; "Ike is Coming", a move that tended to portray that the Governor had lost his status as the political leader of the State, and as such, couldn't direct his people on whom to take over from him in the appropriate Senatorial Zone.

With time, these individuals began to believe and internalize their own lies, and gradually began to feel like they truly had the powers that they lied to the newbies that they had. So, they became bold and launched a vicious campaign of calumny against the governor and his loyalists.

In all, the Governor remained quiet and treated everyone will love and gentility. An act which sealed their beliefs that the governor doesn't have the capacity to do the needful.

As the campaign continued, people from the Governor's zone decided to launch a counter attack by coming up with their own movement, such that if the Ike is Coming group insists on destroying the existing zoning formula, then they too would insist on holding onto power, especially when they have the needed population. This birthed the "Ka Isi-Uzo Jee" movement.

At the helm of both movements are Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and Rt. Hon. Barr. Chijioke Edeoga. And so the struggle continued for 2 years, with both groups totally underestimating the Governor's capacity.

It got to a point where the group loyal to Ka Isi-Uzo Jee movement started threatening that if they didn't carry the day, they would join forces with Ike Ekweremadu to defeat the Governor.

On the other hand, the Ekweremadu group boasted that if the governor doesn't choose their principal, they would join forces with Nkanu to dislodge Edeoga. Yet Gov. Ugwuanyi remained silent.

Like a people surviving on opium, the events of the Ward delegate congresses didn't make either of the groups to accept that they were predestined to fail.

This was why when the results of the Primaries started trickling in and it became obvious that Gov. Ugwuanyi is completely incharge and has a watertight system that can't be penetrated.

This was what sent shocks to everyone in the state as the Primaries election results shattered all they have been injected with consistently for two years, and they suddenly woke up to the reality.

This reality hurts them to the bone marrow. The reality that a man they spent 2 years maligning, attacking, criticizing, insulting and bastardizing his good name and office has come out tops with a resounding victory, while those they believed in more than they believe in God did not just fail but chickened out cowardly.

It's this hurt that has been difficult to heal from, for almost 2 months. For Everytime they see the smiling pictures and videos of the governor which are pretty much everywhere, it pricks their hearts and they wish they can turn back the hands of time.

To heal from this hurts, these various groups must realize that the genesis of their problem is that they started hating a man that has done them no known wrong, they started taking his meekness for weakness and they looked upon him with scorn. An innocent man that has done you no wrong.

The antidote, the cost of healing is to simply accept the truth that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Lawrence Ugwuanyi has not hurt a soul in Enugu and has continued to do his very best to deliver good governance to his people. It is to realize that you have been on the wrong lane, and then make U-turn and reciprocate Ugwuanyi's love for you and the state in appropriate measure.

However, instead of healing, these groups of people thinks it's best to form an alliance against the governor through Rt. Hon. Chijioke Edeoga in the Labour Party. An act that would leave them with further heartbreak.

They said that he whom the gods want to kill, they will first of all make mad. Good luck to those who have chosen to labour for the Lion Building in vain.
