When the story of Wale Yahoo was published in the July 17 edition of Sunday Tribune, little did the title know the extent to which the story would reach those who had been victims of the dead suspect or those who knew him but never thought he could be the one behind most of the robbery cases within Ijebu Ode/Ijebu Igbo/Epe/Lagos State axis which had been giving them sleepless nights. http://www.9jabook.com/forum/topics/wale-yahoo-victims-tell

The owner of one of the cars snatched on July 12 expressed shock at the SARS office when he discovered that the person who robbed him was a well known face. The man (names withheld) told the police that he first ran out of his car when he heard gunshots. The man said he decided to run back to his car when he could no longer hear any sound. Unfortunately for him, as he entered his car to get away from that area, Wale was fast approaching with the other car he snatched. Crossing his victim's car, he ordered him out and collected N300,000, phones and laptop. Wale and his gang members recognised their victim but in order to be sure he didn't recognise them, Wale went back to him to ask him if he could identify the person who collected money from him but the victim replied in the negative. "That was probably my saving grace because at that time, I didn't know he was the one. The gang had recently invaded my farm and collected N2million from me. This was a young man we used to think was gentle in the area we lived", the man stated. |

Wale's gang had also snatched a Toyota Camry on May 20 in Ijebu Igbo. The military were not left out as a captain also fell victim to Wale and his gang members on May 23 in Ijebu Ode. The soldier, according to sources from Ogun State Command, had just bought a red Toyota Camry which he was yet to register. He was somewhere in the town to get himself dinner but was still in his car making a call when Wale allegedly opened the front passenger door and drew a gun which he pointed at the soldier, ordering him to hand over his car key. Wale was said to have revealed foreknowledge of the car as he told the Army Captain that he was aware that he was yet to register the car. The soldier was said to have protested, appealing that his profession should be honoured but Wale had no ears for that. He was reported to have first of all snatched an army jungle hat he saw on the car's dashboard and shot the soldier on the jaw at close range, shattering the bone. Since the captain had no gun on him, he had to find a means of escape, more especially when he noticed that another car had blocked him at the back with other gang members inside. The soldier ran out of the car and scaled a nearby fence but these armed men still went after him. They however turned back so that they could leave the scene. Fortunately, the soldier still had a phone in his pocket and quickly made calls as he was already growing weak as a result of blood loss. The man was recently discharged from hospital with his jaw deformed. |

Wale, the armed robber showed that he had either gone deep in charm making and diabolism or had informants on his payroll who were relating things to him, though the former assumption was more probable. Wale reportedly told the girl that she would not succeed in luring him into the net of the police as he could see her where she was standing with police and army officers. On three other occassions when Wale's gang members were arrested, Wale showed off this kind of extraordinary power to see beyond his immediate environment. On one of the occasions in March this year when SARS operatives in Oyo burst a gang of his, they had tried to arrest Wale who had escaped from the house shortly before the arrival of the police. One of the arrested suspects, Sunday Odidere, called Wale to know where he was and Wale told him to come and meet him at Sabo in Ogbomoso. As the SARS operatives got to Ogbomoso, Sunday called Wale but was surprised when Wale replied mockingly saying "Se wo lo lo ko awon SARS wa ba mi, ti e jo wa ninu Honda Ash Colour? (You have brought SARS operatives to come and arrest me. I can see all of you in an Ash colour Honda car). The policemen were stupefied but would not give up. Sunday insisted he was not with the police and told Wale that he would go and wait for him at Mr Biggs in Ogbomoso. However, the waiting was in vain as Wale later told Sunday that he and the policemen would go back to where they came from when they get tired of waiting. "From where do you think I get the money I spend for you during your shows? Since you have been caught, that is your own cup of tea", he had told Sunday. |

Wale did the same thing in October 2010 when two suspects were caught with the Honda Accord (End of Discusssion) he snatched in Ijebu Ode on October 23. At the police headquarters in Eleyele on October 25, while the suspects - Kunle and Sunday were being interrogated by the then Commissioner of Police, Mr Baba Bolanta, Wale called Sunday, asking where he was but he didn't disclose to him. Wale was angry and said Sunday was mad for trying to deceive him as he already learnt he had been arrested. He mockingly told Sunday to hand over the phone to the police beside him, bragging that he was more than someone that the police would get cheaply. He switched off his phone afterwards. |

After the arrest of his gang members in Ibadan on March 30, Wale had called an Investigative Police Officer from SARS, Ibadan called Oloye and boasted that he could never be arrested in 20 years. He had chanted an incantation. The policeman had replied him that "Taja ba lo ogun odun laye, eran ogun ni (no matter the number of years of a dog on earth, it would still become sacrificial meat). Wale had called Oloye later, introducing himself as 'Wale Yahoo, the armed robber you are looking for'. He then offered the policeman N4 million, asking him to forget about arresting him as he had his connection. |

Many of Ijebu Igbo residents heaved a sigh of relief when they learnt of Wale's arrest and subsequent death, saying that with the way he was going, he would have become another Anini in Nigeria. According to one of them who spoke anonymously, "now, we can hold meetings in the evenings and socialise. Before now, any meeting to be held usually ended by 6p.m. because of the fear of Wale's group. We never knew that our enemy lived within us. We dared not go to night clubs because of incessant car snatching". |
