Can This Generator Power My Pumping Machine? by ForG(m): 11:40am On Jul 12, 2022
Good morning guys.

Please I want to buy a generator to use for a 1HP pumping water. Please I have some questions:

I read on quora that 1.5KVa generator is enough to power a 1HP pumping machine. Is that true?

Secondly which brand would you recommend for or against?

Pumping water is occasional because electricity is constant, so I might not need all that power when using it for household. How do I reduce the power? Or what do I do?

..... To power a 1hp surface or submersible pumping machine,you need atleast a 2.5 KVA generator.

Anybody advising you to buy a 1.5 KVA generator is not telling you the truth.

1 Horse power == 746Watts..
1.5KVA == 1500watts
So as you can see 1500watts >746Watts ..
So it can go.

But due to other related factors like over heating, voltage drop across the wire, etc..
2.5KVA is recommended.

And to reduce the power? You don't have to.. Power will automatically reduce when load(s) is(are) applied to it. Unless you want to damage your generator.

Saw the 2.5 and 3.5kva. Went for the 2.5KVA on your advice.

Good day, can you share your experience using 2.5 KVA?

It did pump the 1HP machine, but shaked violently and took time.

Never broke down though.

Wrong. Starting power of a 1hp pump is in excess of 1000 watts due to the capacitor.

The running power is the 746 watts.

A 1.5kv maximum operating voltage is 1500w so on average it gives 1200 Watts.

To be on a safer side, you need 2.5kva generator. I have tried 1hp on a 1.5kv and it was a failure. ....... from a plumber

You should have bought the 3.5kva if you have no other means of pumping water.

As the gen is shaking violently like that, it's a matter of time before the piston and valve scatter and even engine block may break.

I used tiger 2.5kva to pump water a few times the engine block broke. After replacing block, pumped again and oil started leaking anytime I run the gen.

I only use it to pump water max 3 minutes and off it in order to prevent another costly damage grin
