South Africa Beat Morocco 2-1 To Win First Ever WAFCON Title by Goalgist(f): 11:37pm On Jul 23, 2022
Banyana Banyana of South Africa have been crowned champions of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for the first time after defeating Atlas Lionesses of Morocco 2-1 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Saturday night.

Hildah Magaia was the heroine of the evening as South Africa survived a late fight back to beat Morocco. And despite a a consolation goal from Atlas Lionesses forward Rosella Ayane, Banyana Banyana held on for the win to put an end to their long wait for the WAFCON title.

Magaia’s brace also earned her the tournament’s Golden Boot award which she shared with Moroccan star Ghizlane Chebbak and Rasheedat Ajibade of Nigeria as the three players netted three goals in the continental competition.

South Africa had lost its four previous finals, in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018.
