The best soup in the whole world.
The Asians have their own version of this soup. Visit Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and you’ll never forget the experience.
This soup originates from the Igbos of the Niger Delta.

Nigerians complain a lot. The other day Nlders said she puts too much oil. Today you say no oil. When you cook your own, add am one bottle of oil abeg.

As in! Maybe because they don’t see the oil floating on top. Is it oha, okazi or ofe owerri that you would see oil floating on top?
That's my point exactly, With the average Yoruba soup, you see the oil floating on top and that's how we Yorubas like it. What is the Igbo aversion to the oil floating on top? I know that's why you people call us ofe mmanu. We love oil, we can't help ourselves. I am just wondering why Igbos dislike oil and PEPPER TOO. That's all.

Igbos apply oil a lot in their soups. However Nsala is not made with oil. The moment you add oil, its name ceases. It is a form of pepper soup.

Some people call it White Soup.

You are a good cook, but you over spice ooo, this is the modern ofe nsala, normally you no go use fresh fish and chicken together traditionally, and that oziza leaf and him brother just takes away that simplicity ofe nsala is known for, Native Chicken, yam, pepper, salt and Maggi is enough recipe for traditional ofe nsala and yes I'm from Aguleri

Ofe nsala or rather, no igbo soup requires Maggi and co.
That is the real ofe insala. Full stop.
No ofe nsala without uziza seed or leave. Some even add alligator pepper or Cameron pepper.
That one you listed is peppersoup not ofe nsala.
It didn't even qualify as peppersoup.

You don’t have soups with any oil floating on top. What you have is plain soup with stew (obe ata) that has plenty oil. You guys eat all your soup with stew, so you think that is what a soup should look like. We don’t eat our soups with stew and oil floating on top. Igbo soups are independent and stand alone dishes.

Ofe nsala is not peppersoup.
Preparation and spices used are different.
You don't use uziza leave for any peppersoup.
You don't thicken peppersoup.
You don't use okpei for peppersoup.

Peppersoup must have Calabash nutmeg as the main ingredient.
Nsala don't use it.
It is actually called fisherman soup before it was modified. This is onitsha fisherman soup modified to into this.

From the way I put my thoughts across, you would know that's not my intention. I am a very detribalized Nigerian and I have a lot of Igbos as friends and it has always been a source of banter between us. Why do Igbos have an aversion for oil? I am asking with a very church mind.

Nsala soup is one soups that you can't get enough of. It's easy to prepare and yet so rich and very tasty.

Have you eaten Nsala soup before?

In this video, I showed detailed procedures of how to make Nsala soup with fresh chicken and fresh cat fish with Utazi leaves the Anambra style. You can alternate with any protein of your choice but it comes out better with fresh produce.

Ingredients:

Fresh hard Chicken
Fresh Cat Fish
Yam (fot thickening)
Pepper
Crayfish
Okpei
Utazi leaves
Uziza seeds
Uda seed
Salt
Seasoning

Okpei is even better , if at all u need use ogiri , normally u don't use ogiri in nsala
the truth is that you seem to have only known about using okpei in Nsala so you may not understand, even caterers use Ogiri Igbo in public foods, the taste supersedes that of Ogiri okpei

Yoruba no dey follow anybody drag soup. We have a very thin range of soups we eat but what we eat, we make them with lots of oil. You say Yorubas eat bland soups then add stew to them. That's not always true. Not all soups are eaten that way. We could cook our okro bland then add stew, we could also cook the okro soup with the oil, pepper and other condiments added. The same goes for all kinds of soup.

You eat them with stew that comes with a lot of oil. When you guys have at least 4 stand alone soups that have a lot of oil floating on top - then we can revisit this conversation. Even Efo Riro doesn’t have oil floating on it. So I don’t know this oil you are whining about like your soups come out with all the oil.
