Most US colleges and universities require applicants to take one or more standardized tests like the SAT, GRE, and GMAT. Standardized tests measure a student’s critical thinking skills and ability to solve problems, not reproduce knowledge. Additionally, applicants whose mother tongue is not English are required to take the English Proficiency test TOEFL or IELTS.
SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)
‘The SAT’ is a general test of reading, writing and quantitative reasoning skills which students need to be successful in an undergraduate program. It is required and accepted for admission to a US university/college. ‘The SAT Subject Test’ is required by a few US universities to study specific majors in college. ‘The SAT’ and the ‘SAT Subject Test’ are designed to assess your academic readiness for college.
GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test)
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized test that measures verbal, mathematical and analytical writing skills. It is intended to help the graduate schools of business worldwide assess the potential of applicants for advanced study in business and management.

GRE (Graduate Record Examination)
The Graduate Record Examination is another standardized test that measures verbal, mathematical and analytical skills. It is intended to help graduate schools (of all fields other than business) assess the potential of applicants for Masters and Doctoral programs. The GRE Subject Test is required along with the GRE, by a few US universities for a few programs.

ELTS (International English Language Testing System)
IELTS is an English Language proficiency test for students whose mother tongue is not English. It is required for study in countries where the medium of instruction is English. IELTS is accepted by universities in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

I will like to use this medium to explain more different between GMAT and GRE for those that used to be calling me to know more about GMAT and GRE.

ABOUT GMAT/ Most business schools, not just in the USA, but all over the world, require a student to have done the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) to be considered for admission to a postgraduate business administration course. Admission to the best courses is typically limited to those who have the highest test scores. Even those institutes that do not require a GMAT score welcome them as an additional way of assessing students' eligibility and this often gives these students an edge over others.

The test is divided into 4 sections, each designed to evaluate a student's suitability for management studies.

A 75 minute Quantitative Section that comprises of 37 multiple choice questions.
A 30 minute Integrated Reasoning Section that comprises of 12 multiple choice questions. Most of these are multi-part and require a logical sequential response.
A 30 minute Analytical Writing Assessment Section that comprises of one essay based on a given topic with directions on how the essay is to be structured.
A 75 minute Verbal Section that comprises of 41 multiple choice questions.
Although the structure of the test may appear to be simple and direct, the type of questions, the expected nature of the responses and the time limitations can make it extremely hard. It is not an examination that students can normally study for and do well in on their own. The test has been created by the Graduate Management Admission Council to meet its unique requirements to determine eligibility for admission to management courses. In addition, the test is completely computer based and this can be a challenge even for students who are used to working with computers.

There are 2 factors that are key to GMAT success:

A thorough knowledge of the type of questions that are asked and the ability to respond to them in the limited time available.
An understanding of what the test seeks to evaluate. This will enable students to use the knowledge they have in a focused manner to obtain a high score.
While GMAT coaching online classes are very popular, many of them do not have the skilled and experienced teachers needed to master this very specialized examination.

The teachers at Limpopo Center are not just knowledgeable in what the test expects of those who take it, they are familiar with the examination structure and specific skills required for online examinations. Our GMAT coaching online is designed to allow us to work with our students to teach and provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to answer questions in a manner that will get them high marks and also give them the familiarity with the test format and structure that will instill in them the confidence to do well and obtain admission to the best management courses.

ABOUT GRE/ The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is the widely accepted standard test required to gain admission to post-graduate and doctoral studies in the U.S.A. and many other English speaking countries. The examination is in 2 parts - the GRE General Test and the GRE Subject Test.

The General Test is to be taken by all. The test is designed to measure a student's critical thinking and is divided into 3 main sections - Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning skills. The Subject Test is designed to evaluate a student's knowledge and understanding of 7 specific subjects. Whether or not a candidate has to take the subject test will depend on the course for which admission is sought and the school/college being applied to.

The examination is computer based in most parts of the world, including India. The test comprises of 6 sections and the total time available to complete it is 3 hours 40 minutes. There is a 10-minute break after the 3rd section. Often research questions meant to evaluate their use in future tests are included. These are for internal use and the answers given are not scored. However, the student will not know which are scoring questions and which are not.

Analytical Writing: This is in 2 parts. In part 1 a paragraph on a general subject is provided and students must present their views on it using logical reasoning and if possible, examples to support their position. In part 2 another paragraph presenting a point of view on a general subject is presented and the students will have to critique the argument and explain why they support or are against the view presented.

Verbal Reasoning: This section comprises of questions designed to test students' ability to form conclusions based on written material, to recognize and understand relationships between words and concepts and to understand the relationship between different parts of a sentence. Reading comprehension questions, sentence completion, antonyms and analogies are among the topics covered.

Quantitative Reasoning: This section is designed to test students' ability to use quantitative reasoning. This is done using American high school level mathematics problems in arithmetic, geometry, algebra and data analysis.

The GRE is in some ways similar to other similar examinations. That does not mean that the preparations for them are the same. Many GRE online coaching centers use shortcuts in how they prepare students for the examination and this is a common reason for not doing well. At Limpopo Center we know that the GRE is a very specialized test and our GRE online coaching provides students with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to perform at the highest levels in the examination.

LEARN COMPLETE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN IELTS & TOEFL.
International student who are from a non-native English speaking country seeking admission in universities abroad, it is mandatory to provide scores of an English language proficiency test. IELTS and TOEFL are the two most common and widely accepted tests. While the purpose of both these exams is the same, they differ on several accounts. So, if you are confused between which one to take, read our guide to understand the difference between IELTS and TOEFL and choose the right one for you.
An Overview of the IELTS & TOEFL Exams
Before we delve into the head on collision between the two exams, i.e., TOEFL vs IELTS let us first take a quick overview of the two.

What is IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a test which measures an applicant’s English language proficiency. The exam evaluates an individual’s English language skills across four aspects: Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking.
The exam was established in 1989 and is jointly administered by the British Council, IDP Education, and Cambridge Assessment English. The exam is conducted in two modes: Paper-based and Computer-delivered.

What is TOEFL?
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a standardized test accepted worldwide and most foreign universities where the language of instruction is English. The exam is structured and designed in a way to effectively assess a student’s command over English language.
The exam is conducted by Education Testing Service (ETS), a US-based private non-profit organisation. The exam has two modes: Internet-Based Test (iBT) and Paper-Delivered Test

What is the difference between IELTS and TOEFL: 9 Ways in Which the Exams Differ
Now let us understand the main difference between IELTS and TOEFL exams:

1.Scope
If we look over to the difference between IELTS and TOEFL, both the tests are meant to assess an individual’s English language ability, there is a change in the scope of the two exams.
IELTS has a wider scope when compared to TOEFL. It is used as an English proficiency test for individuals wishing to study abroad, occupational purposes and immigration to English speaking countries.
TOEFL is used for academic purposes alone. It is taken by students who wish to enroll in English-speaking universities.

2. Types
The IELTS exam has two main variations - Academic and General Training. While the IELTS Academic test is to be taken by students planning for higher studies, such as Undergraduate, Masters, Doctoral levels; IELTS General Training exam is for individuals planning to take up a vocational training program or to immigrate professionally.
On the other hand, as discussed already, TOEFL is only used for academic purposes, therefore it has no major variations.

3. Locations Available
The exams are widely available but differ in terms of availability.
The IELTS exam can be taken by students in over 140 countries at around 1,600 locations.
TOEFL is very convenient to take. Students can take the exam almost anywhere in the world. Testing centers are available in more than 165 countries at over 4,500 locations.

4. Popularity
Both the exams are quite popular when it comes to the number of students taking the exam each year.

In 2018, IELTS was estimated to be taken by over 3.5 million candidates. The number is higher here because IELTS is not taken by students alone.

TOEFL is estimated to be taken by over 2.3 million aspirants every year.

5. Interaction With Examiner
Another difference lies in IELTS TOEFL the way the exam is conducted.
For IELTS exams, students are required to directly communicate with the examiner for the IELTS speaking section test.
TOEFL is a completely computer-based exam. Therefore, students do not interact personally with the examiners. For the TOEFL speaking section, students are required to record and send over their speech for checking.

6. Scoring
One of the main differences between IELTS and TOEFL is the way they are scored.
IELTS is graded on a band system ranging from 1 (the lowest) to 9 (the highest). IELTS exam scoring, overall and section-wise, is done on a scale of 0-9.
Whereas, TOEFL is scored out of 120 points. Each section is graded on a scale of 0-30.

7. Exam Duration
The IELTS exam takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete.
The exam duration for Internet Based TOEFL exam is 3 hours long and the paper delivered exam is 2 and a half hours long.

8. Frequency
The TOEFL iBT exam is scheduled for over 60 times a year at the authorized test centers around the world. The new TOEFL iBT home edition exam can be taken 4 days a week.
The IELTS exam can be taken up to once a week. It is scheduled for test dates 48 days per year.

9. Result Declaration
The TOEFL score is made available to the students anywhere between 6-10 days from the test date.
The IELTS test results are released within a week (online) or 13 days (offline) after taking the exam.
